Wedding Party

Wedding party jobs for cousins

I have my BM's and GM's done....Now I just need to know if its okay to have two flower girls and two ring bearer's???? And they are also a little older, they will be around 10 and 12. Is there another name they can go by?? and how should the flower girls dress?? Just in a junior bridesmaid dress?  HELP ME

Re: Wedding party jobs for cousins

  • Well those ages seem a little old for flower girls and ring bearers. If it's causing you stress, maybe you shouldn't have them in the wedding party at all.

Maybe you should just take a nice picture with all the children after the wedding ceremony and leave it at that.

Can they please just be guests?  Yes, they are too old for FG and RB, and JR titles are just a little inappropriate IMO.  If you REALLY feel the need for them to do something, they can do readings, man the guest book, assist with parking, but why not just allow them to come and partake in everything any other guest would do.

ETA: I feel the jr title is inappropriate because they can either be BM or GM, no need for the jr title because of age.  And I feel a BP should be old enough to fully understand the purpose and ideals of marriage.  I think it should be those people you would call for anything in the middle of the night, and can talk to about anything.  I'm pretty sure you would not talk to your 12 year old niece if you were having problems.

    Jr. Bridesmaid and Jr. Groomsmen.

Ages 10 and 12 seem way too old for ring bearers and flower girls.  A lot of designers have dresses for jr BMs - there are tons of options.  And, if by chance, you don't see something you like, some designers (Alfred Angelo comes to mind) will make the BM dress into a Jr. BM style for no added cost - so they don't look so grown up.  We are having this done for my 11-year-old Jr. BM.

    Edit: she's 11.
  • Can someone explain to me what a Jr. Bridesmaid/Jr. Groomsman is? Don't they do the same thing as the BM and GM? Why have the Junior attached to it?

A jr BM of GM is someone who was promised to be in a wedding at one point or another, and now they are too old to be a FG or RB, but the originator of the promises does not want to hurt kids feelings, so they are promoted to said title.

  • Or they just want an excuse to put their kid in the wedding... which is my excuse.
  • Agreed - 10-12 is too old for FG/RB positions. I would have them as guests, hand out programs, ushers, or jr. BMs/GMs. They are old enough to decide what positions they would like. Just ask them.
