Wedding Party

Why did I do this....

Two nights ago, DH surprised me by making duck breast with a cabernet sauce and risotto for dinner.  Since this was definitely girl food, last night I made guy food: barbecue bacon cheese burgers with duck fat fries and later while watching Next Iron Chef, we were eating bacon wrapped water chestnuts.

Oh God does my digestive track hate me.  Last night I was picturing my stomach making scowlly faces at me.

  • In my book, that would all have been totally worth it.

This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Also, DH is planning on making duck for Thanksgiving, so he's doing a trial run on Saturday.  I'm beyond stoked.  I'm obsessed with duck.

  • It's not for lack of adventure, it's the fact that they are a ROYAL pain in the ass to make properly.  We talked about developing some sort of turducken canape for the wedding, but we couldn't quite figure out the recipe, and the caterer quoted an extra $9/person for it when we asked.  Yeah, not so much.  I'd love to try it someday, maybe we'll buy one off the internet premade.

  • Youngest brother was psyched to make Turducken for his first Thanksgiving away from home.  He and his now wife were hosting dinner for orphans like them.  Baby bro couldn't  talk about anything else until he saw the price.  After that it was "Dude.  Turkey is good..."

  • Well, we'll have turkey and duck.  If someone in the family brings chicken, maybe we can improvise...

I vote for a $5 rotisserie chicken from Vons, just so you can live the dream!

  • MH and some friends and I went to Montreal this past weekend. We ate some fairly heavy pork and duck dishes one night (Au Pied de Cochon restaurant, it was on Anthony Bourdain in one episode if you watch that show), poutine and burgers another night, and crepes and gourmet hot chocolate the last morning (Juliette et Chocolat). OOOOHHHH, we sure felt like crap during the drive home :P

I don't want to live in a world where someone has not experienced the joy of bacon-wrapped water chestnuts. My mom makes bacon-wrapped water chestnuts for every party. They are so freaking good. Wrap a whole water chestnut in a raw slice of bacon, skewer it, and pop it in the oven until the bacon crisps up. They're also really good smothered in barbecue sauce. Mmmmm...my stomach is growling just thinking about them.

  • mmmm.  I missed dinner tonight for a committee meeting, and reading about BBQ bacon cheeseburgers, duck fat fries, and bacon wrapped water chestnuts~well they sure beat my bowl of cheerios in skim milk.  I want what you had!  ;)
