Groomsmen Gift Ideas

Yeah, I know this is an often-asked question, but I went through four pages of this board and didn't find a similar thread.

Any ideas--we've got 4 college guys and 2 high schoolers (my brothers). We were originally thinking flasks but they are A. Boring B. Might be used a little too liberally during the wedding the next day.

Any cool ideas?

Think 'what would you give to each GM for his birthday?'

FI got his friends (just for agreeing to be GM) crystal head vodka which is vodka that comes in skulls. As a small gift he's getting them personal cuff links to their tastes (like his brother is getting old school nintendo cuff links), he hasn't decided what else yet, but his dad smuggled in real cuban cigars for them to smoke at the bach party.

Ditto Banana, shop like you would if it was their birthday.

Well, get them a nice bottle of booze or a gift card to their favorite restaurant...or both! Don't overthink it, just be sure that the gift you give them is something they'll enjoy.

This question gets asked almost every day - how did you not find a similar thread through four pages back?

    Plenty about bridesmaids--no groomsmen
  • Options
Barware (either practical or a fun show piece), liquor, restaurant gift cards.
  • Options
It gets asked about the WP in general:
    Bridesman Gift
    Wedding Party Gifts
    Gifts for Groomsmen
    WP Gift Ideas

I think I made my point, but besides that, being GM versus BM doesn't change the general advice of how to shop for them.  If you'd read the advice, you wouldn't be talking about getting them all the same thing, like flasks.

I say this every day.  Shop like it's their birthday.  The rule does not change simply because they are guys.

If they like food and booze, gift them food and booze.

Thanks--I think a giftcard to their favorite bar will probably be a big hit (and it makes certain the alcohol isn't immediately available). I'm still working on ideas for my brothers.

And jeez...heaven forbid I ask a wedding party question on the wedding party board--at least I had the courtesy to go back and see if the exact same question had been asked recently. "Shopping like you would for their birthdays" is great advice for bridesmaids...not so much for guys. They celebrate their birthdays with heavy drinking--I show up, buy them a shot, and maybe bring cupcakes if I'm feeling extra domestic.  Doesn't work quite as well for a rehearsal dinner--especially with grandparents and somewhat conservative parents in attendance.

Really your FI should be shopping for them since they are his GM.

But I pointed out several threads that dealt with WP generally and guys specifically.  We get asked this question almost every day.  Normally I just answer, but if you say you looked and you clearly didn't or think your situation is so unique that the advice doesn't apply to you, I take issue.

And really, you buy your HS age brothers shots for their birthdays?  Either you don't care that that's illegal or you're not being truthful.

My advice is the same - shop for your attendants as people, not members of a WP.  Look at their individual interests and base your gift on that, not on some idea of what a WP gift "should" be.

I kind of assumed here that she meant she bought shots for the adult GM, not the HS brothers.

everybody needs to settle down.  seriously??? Freak out a little more.  If it bothers you that somebody posted something similar to whats been on the board already, don't respond!! Its not required.  I think all of you ladies need a drink or a flask or some psych meds.  I'm glad I won't be around you on the day of your wedding!!

All of our GM are outdoorsy type guys, so we bought them:
          *Personalized cooler bags

Then filled them with mini bottles of booze and a couple cans of their favorite beer along with chips, beef jerky, favorite snacks, etc!!!

Check them out at Theknot.com's wedding shop! Look for them to go on sale to save money!

I actually was wondering the same question, because FI and i can't figure out our groomsmen gifts.  I swear these threads are just filled with bridezillas :) that are freaking out, so they decide to take it all out on innocent brides just planning for their BIG days!   I just don't get it, if you can't say anything nice, then please just keep it to yourself!   Try weddingbee.com I've found the brides are much nicer over there! : ) Happy Planning!
