Wedding Party

Man of Honor?

We are having a small wedding party and I really only wanted the people that Im closest with involved, so I asked my brother to be my best man or man of honor and he said yes!  Yay!! Is this super strange? Im really not worried what people will think or anything Im just wondering if many brides have guys stand up for them?

Re: Man of Honor?

  • Nope, not strange at all. I think Stagemanager had a man on her side. Your WP SHOULD be the people who are closest to you, regardless of sex or age.

  • If he's the most important friend/family member in your life, then why shouldn't  he stand up for you?

Gender really shouldn't be what determines who stands where in the WP. I'm sure there's a lot of women our there that have a brother or a close male friend and wind up picking a girl that they aren't so close with for their MOH just because they feel a guy can't stand on their side. It's totally ridiculous. It should be who you care about the most.

If you fire a WP member, you're against America.

  • It happens all the time.  If that's who is closest to you, that's who should stand up with you.  Shake off anyone who tries to make you feel bad about it.

  • I think having a man on the bride's side is becoming more and more common.
  • My brother's a bridesman, and FI's super awesome friend is a groomswoman.  Mixed gender parties are the best, because you don't have the weirdness of someone else's friend/relative on your side.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Awsome, thanks for the replies. Im glad its more common than I thought, not that that would matter. Im just hoping he doesnt feel the need to bring up all the stoopid sh*t we did as kids in his speech =) Im excited, we've always been uber close, if anyone doesnt like it, they can blow me!!
  • That actually sounds like it would make a really cute speech :)

It's definitely a lot more common now! I have a bridesman in my party because I'd rather have a person I care more about stand by my side than some one I'm sort of friends with just because she's a girl.

He'll be wearing the same colors as the groomsmen for the flower and tuxes. And it's cool because he's good friends with my fiance as well..so he's invited to all of the guy's events too!
