Ushers?

I'm not really sure who the ushers are traditionally supposed to be? does it matter? do I have to have them?

Ushers help people find their seats.  Can be helpful if you have a wedding with a lot of guests.  Do you have to have them?  Of course not--the wedding police will not bust the place up for not having ushers.  At least not in 47 states

The rule of thumb is one usher to every 50 guests. In many cases the groomsmen can double as ushers. If you don't want them to do double duty then choose anyone who you want to be part of your wedding.

Also, there aren't people in your lives who are "traditionally" ushers. H's brothers were the ushers for our ceremony, but they can be whomever.

Our venue was kinda tricky, in that it wasn't totally intiutive to guests where they were supposed to go immediatly after the ceremony, so we asked some friends to be in charge of "directing traffic" up and out of the ceremony area.  They also passed out programs, but I think a basket full of programs by the door is just as effective.

So sometimes they can be helpful, but they're definitely not neccessary.

We asked my brother and a good friend...we already have 5 groomsmen, so it was a good way to involve them both.
