Re: WPBP of the day

• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? Depends on the job. I really don't give a damn if the 18 year old at McDonald's is smoking pot, but I DO care if my child's teacher is.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? Yes, several jobs.

Name a documentary that you love: The Civil War by Ken Burns. Yes, it's 13 hours, and I love it anyway.

Where did most of your furniture come from? Friends, family, and yard sales.

I judge anyone who has a tiered reception, and parents who don't discipline their children.

• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs?
For some jobs, yes. Pilots, long-haul truck drivers, doctors, etc.

Have you ever had to do one for a job?
When I was younger, for some reason I wanted to work at Sear's. Yes, Sear's requires drug testing. I guess they don't want junkies manning their cash drawers.

Name a documentary that you love: Bowling for Columbine

Where did most of your furniture come from?
A little bit from here and a little bit from there. Most however, was delivered from Rooms 2 Go.

I judge people who create racist AE's and then proceed to propagate horribly racist stereotypes.

• Mandatory Drug testing? For some yes. For anyone who could seriously injure others, yes.

Had to do one for a job? No, I don't do any drugs but my coworkers in every job i've had do...including the boss. He didn't want to fire himself or lose an entire work force so he didn't do them. Besides, they all did drugs together so they were best buds.

Documentary I love? Anything about the ocean, nature, or animals. I like the animals ones less because of the obvious down side. Watching them occasionally killing each other...I feel bad about it. Oh yeah, and crime documentaries.

Where is my furniture from? It's a mix of Ashley pieces and stuff that was handed down or brought from college. FMIL keeps trying to give me pieces she doesn't want but our styles are radically different. I'm running out of excuses!

I judge: parents who don't keep up with, or discipline, their kids. Over the weekend my neighbor finally came looking for her 3 yr old who wandered into my back yard. This is the same 3 yr old that goes into people's houses on our street, takes their stuff back to her house, and has been caught taking my mail. Seriously, my patients are getting short for this kid. Her other two usually wander off and make it back but this is seriously out of hand.

• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? Not every job, but anything that requires heavy machinery.
Have you ever had to do one for a job? Nope.
Name a documentary that you love: We were watching the "Cove" last night and I was balling my eyes out. If you haven't seen it, I hope you will.
Where did most of your furniture come from? Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Macy's.
I judge people who wear crocs, socks with sandals, and those weird running barefoot shoes.

• Suz, watch the Cove if you haven't already. It's about the dolphin slaughters in Japan and how the fishermen are selling it for food. It's from the point of view of activists who are trying to get the word out that it's happening.

• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? I'm with Baystate here...teens smoking pot at fast food joints is one thing, but I wouldn't want someone who is taking care of my children or myself to be high when they're doing it...
Have you ever had to do one for a job? No, but I'm more than willing to do one if the job requires it
Name a documentary that you love: I'm not a big fan of documentaries...
Where did most of your furniture come from? hand-me-downs...
I judge as little as possible, but I can't help myself some times...like people who propagate sterotypes (amen to bbycakes on that one!) or pregnant women who smoke...if I could quit for my baby's sake, so can they...
• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? I don't know that I have an opinion on this.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? No.

Name a documentary that you love: Hmmm...Jesus Camp.

Where did most of your furniture come from? Pier One.

I judge people who tailgate. Wherever you're going or however late you are, I just don't care and it doesn't require you to ride 2 inches from my bumper.

• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? I also think it depends on the job.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? Yes. My company requires you to take a drug test before they will hire you.

Name a documentary that you love: I haven't really watched any documentaries.

Where did most of your furniture come from? We bought our living room set from a local unclaimed freight store. Other than that it's mostly stuff that has been handed down to us or stuff that H had before we moved in together.

I judge people that don't return their shopping cart to the cart corral
image
• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs?
Depends on the job. Cashier at Walmart, I don't care. My doctor, teachers, day care workers, I want to know they're not on drugs.

Have you ever had to do one for a job?
Yes, when I worked as an education exhibit guide at the zoo. It required working with the public, and hosting education classes for kids. But it was only when they hired me, no random tests throughout.

Name a documentary that you love:
Anything animal or nature-related.
Where did most of your furniture come from?
It's pretty much all hand-me-downs from family. Or garage sales.

I judge _____________.
Way too much to list here.
• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? No. I see how it could be more relevant in certain jobs, but I also feel like we don't test for alcohol, and you can cause just as much damage drunk on the job as you could high on the job.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? No.

Name a documentary that you love: March of the Penguins

Where did most of your furniture come from? Local department store

I judge the people who live down the street from me who have a German Shepherd puppy that seems to live on their balcony. If you want a big dog in an apartment, you need to give it attention, walks and as much space as possible. Poor thing is always out on the balcony barking its head off at any dog that walks by, probably because it's so frustrated.
• Emily - I judge those people too. I judge anyone who can mistreat and animal or doesn't take care of it. Now I want to fly to Chile, steal their puppy, bring it home, and give it a happy home :(

• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? I don't think it's necessary, but it wouldn't bother me if it were mandatory. I also wouldn't be opposed to it being required for some forms of government assistance.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? No. I only have to if I get injured on the job.

Name a documentary that you love: I don't watch them so much.

Where did most of your furniture come from? Family, Craigslist, Wal-Mart, Lowe's

I judge cash barsAnd various other things, but cash bars really bother me. It might as well be cash steak and cash fondant as well.
• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? Not unless it's medical field.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? Yes, I'm an Accountant but still had to take one.

Name a documentary that you love: Don't really care for documentaries.

Where did most of your furniture come from? Bought bedroom set from Rooms2Go.

I judge too many to list plus my brain is fried, was in vegas this wknd for bachelorette fiesta.
• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? no, I think it's an invasion of privacy. As long as you can do your job, it doesn't matter to me what you put in your body.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? nope

Name a documentary that you love: March of the Penguins. Especially the part where they're walking in a line and one fall. "Waaah. Awwww."

Where did most of your furniture come from? one of the lab instructors at school let me have a LOT of old furniture. Her family put all their old furniture in a barn, but they sold the property and wanted to give the stuff to a poor grad student. FIs came from his parents when they redid some of their house.

I judge _____________. parents who don't discipline their kids, parents who let their kids become obese, people who can't write a proper sentence, people who vote straight-ticket instead of researching individual candidates, people who blame everyone ELSE for their problems, people who don't neuter their pets
• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? Depends on the job, if it's something like working with kids-absolutely.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? Haven't had to do one.

Name a documentary that you love: Religulous

Where did most of your furniture come from? Either IKEA or Schneidermans

I judge people that don't discipline their kids, parents that use those leashes that look like backpacks on their kids, don't pick up their dog's poo, are incredibly closed minded, rattle off racial and/or homophobic slurs, are rude to retail and food service workers for no reason.

• suz, I've got to jump in. You leash a dog, you don't leash a kid. You hold a child's hand and teach the child not to dart off. You do your job as a parent and the kid doesn't need a leash.

I understand that it sometimes happens that children get lost in the shuffle in crowded areas, but there's no reason to resort to a leash. It really just makes me think that child's parents are too lazy to teach him or her how to behave in public, in crowds and in general, so they just hook a leash on them to have the least amount of responsibility possible for the child.

But that's just my two cents.

• Suz-I think there are better ways to keep track of your kids than putting a leash on them. If you know the kid can't behave themself in a certain place, don't take them there or make sure someone else comes with you to help. Putting a child on a leash seems like an 'easy' way out I guess instead of actually disciplining and keeping good tabs on your kid.

Although, I can understand it if they're in an ungodly huge place like Mall of America, when I worked there- MANY parents used them on their kids. I wouldn't want to scour 4 floors of mall and 14 floors of parking ramps looking for a kid!

I just don't see the need for it if say- they're going to the grocery store.

I can completely understand that. I'm not saying i'd be super lazy or anything. I just know I see them a lot at the mall during Christmas shopping. I think it would be a good preventative measure in that situation. Also, 1 in 150 kids are diagnosed with Autism. In certain types children are harder to keep up with and will dart off without warning. In those cases, as horrible as it may sound, I believe in the extra measure.

On the same note...parents that are lazy with their kids are also lazy with their dogs. You can teach a dog to stay with you, you just have to put in the time and effort just like with a child.

• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? For some. If you're 18 and bringing me refills? Probably not. If you're operating dangerous machinery? Yes.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? No, which I think is kind of strange because I'm a teacher.

Name a documentary that you love: March of the Penguins. (It's pretty much the only one I can remember seeing and liking)

Where did most of your furniture come from? Hand-me-downs or Ikea.

I judge parents who do not have control of their children in public places, people who mistreat animals, and a lot more. I try not to judge...but sometimes I can't help itOh, and people who either complain nonstop about the job they have, or about being unemployed. You aren't the only one with those problems.
• SSaltzman - My MOH teaches autistic kids at a school in AZ. I wasn't really aware of how common Autism is until she started working there. I've been looking into local groups here and have found a few service dog groups for autistic kids. It is surprising how little people know about it.
Anniversary
• Yeah, it's incredibly common! My cousin has Asperger's, my FI also works with autistic kids in our local school district-a boy he works with outside of school actually has a service dog that his family trained. Therapy & Service dogs are a WONDERFUL thing!

It seems like everyone I meet has a connection to it-whether they have a friend whose child is on the spectrum, or a sibling who got diagnosed.

Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs?
Like PP have said, it totally depends on the job. I really don't care if you're doing some crappy fast food/retail job that pays $5.00 an hour and you smoke pot ... in fact, I almost can't blame you for smoking pot if you do. But for like teachers, bankers, people that could severely endanger others or cause a ton of harm if they aren't sober (Like people who work in airports or do construction), then hell yeah you should be tested!

Have you ever had to do one for a job?
When I worked as a bank teller, I had to get one done to get the job. They always said that there was a possibility of being randomly tested if given a reason to, but even the really "suspicious" people never got re-tested. It's partially for this reason that I was not totally shocked when my former bank went under (I had quit long before that happened, though).

Name a documentary that you love:
The King of Kong! (Team Wiebe!!!!)

Where did most of your furniture come from?
Different places. My dining room set came from Boscov's, my living room came from a local furniture store, and the bedroom is a combination of Target and Costco. Everything we have, save for one book shelf that DH brought from his old room, was bought new when we moved in or shortly after( Nobody we knew was really giving anything away at the time).

I judge _____________.
Hahaha, I'm a very judgey person, so I'll try to just keep it to one today:
I judge people who blame the world for everything bad that's ever happen to them (Even if a lot of it is just a result of making poor choices), and instead of thinking "I'm going to work hard to overcome my problems", just figure "Well, since my life has sucked lately (Regardless of how I acquired all of my problems), I'm entitled to my life to magically become perfect overnight with no effort on my end" and then bitch and moan when they wake up and yet again, life is not magically perfect for them.

• Do you think drug testing should be mandatory for jobs? I'm kind of torn. I think it's fine in principle, but it's too easy to get a false positive on most of them. Besides, as long as you're doing your job safely, what you do on your own time is your own business. I think it's bull that people in certain fields get held to a higher standard than the rest of us.

Have you ever had to do one for a job? Nope. I'm kind of shocked that Disney doesn't require them, even though no one I knew there was into anything stronger than booze and cigarettes.

Name a documentary that you love: Promises. It follows a bunch of Israeli and Palestinian children.

Where did most of your furniture come from? IKEA all the way.

I judge the parents of kids that shriek in public places. I usually judge them quite loudly as DH and I walk by.

• As far as the leash thing, I don't mind it. I seem to remember having one as a kid, and a friend pointed out to me that having to hold your hand up over your head all day isn't terribly comfortable for the kid. I dealt with a lot of lost children at Disney who would wind up following the wrong adult or get separated from the parents in the crowd, sometimes holding hands isn't enough.

And I still have a special place in my heart for the monkey ones, because they were a free punchline. "Aww, sweetheart, you're far too young to have a monkey on your back! You're supposed to wait until college for that."

I think drug testing should be more extensive, and for some jobs. Many more illicit and harmful drugs are water-soluble and only stay in the system for 1-2 days, whereas other not-so-harmful drugs can stay in the system for weeks...

I did have a drug test once, when I dispatched for a city police department.

I can't say I love this documentary because it's a good one; but I love it because the research and sources are so amazingly thorough: "Jonestown: The Life and Death of People's Temple" (2006). I'm a Crim Maj/Psych Min and it really interests me.

All of my furniture came from my mom's business (building company that decorates model homes) after they've been used in model houses, or things that we've inherited. Very.....eclectic.

I judge people who knock clothes off the racks in department stores...look around to see if anyone saw them do it...and keep walking. Lazy %@$+@&#$. People have to come behind your lazy a$$ and pick that up. (aka, ME.)

- I've done it for my current job, as well as the one before
- March of the Penguins (that counts, right?)
- a whole bunch of places! We merged stuff when we moved in together and so far the only thing we have bought together is our living room stuff- everything else we are waiting until we buy a place and know what will fit with it
- I judge people who skimp out on thank you notes. No excuse.

My youngest brother didn't come along until after we were all pretty much adults, but growing up my parents did manage to take the 4 of us everywhere from pretty much infancy without leashes, and very rarely did any of us get lost. We were pretty much always on the go, too, so I have no idea how they did it, aside from guessing that my mom is really a sorcerer with magic "kid wrangling" abilities and a secret third arm.
