Wedding Party

Calling all brides, MOH needs assistance

I got married last year in the Lake district in England; my best friend from America was my Chief Bridesmaid. Now its her turn and I want to throw her the best hen do ever!!! She lives just outside Oneida in a town called Sherrill in upstate new york, I have done a google search for hen/bachorlette parties and so far nothing has come up. I have enquired into hiring a limo but want to do something fun for her and I want it to be a complete suprise! Now the wedding isn't for 2 years ish but with me living so far away I think i need to get some ideas in quick to ensure she has the best night out!! :)

Re: Calling all brides, MOH needs assistance

  • Step 1: do nothing for another 1.5 years.

Step 2: when it's a few months before the wedding, get in touch with the other BMs and ask them if they'd like to help you organize and, if so, what they're thinking and what they're able to contribute. You do not get to plan a party and then present other people with a bill.

Step 3: once you've all agreed on a general plan, come back and post on the Upstate New York board - these boards are international, and I for example have no idea what kind of things there are to do in NY. You'll probably get better advice on a locla board.

  • Thanks EMily, Is there any bachorlette planning websites in the US? I went to a hen do early in the year and she booked accomodation, events, bar passes etc all through this website in the uk and it was amazing!! Im not sure if she has choosen other bridesmaids yet. Thanks for your advice xx
  • Not that I know of, but I don't live in the US anymore. My friends who've done bachelorette parties however have just booked things themselves - dinner out, shows, planned which bars to go to, wine tasting, etc. I really don't think you need a specific website for this, you can just ask your friend what kind of things she'd like to do (again, in like a year and a half) and go from there.
  • I live about an hour and a half away from Oneida!! I love that place! There is plenty of fun things to do here in NY... if you come to the finger lakes.. the wine tours are great! I went on a wine tour last month for a good friend of mine and we all had a blast! I would recommend getting a limo or a non-drinking friend to drive you around though, it's a lot more fun when everyone in the wedding party can drink and relax and have a good time! I would also recommend doing a dinner or lunch before or after the tour... its a great time to sit and talk and get to know all of the brides friends and maybe even some of her family! If you were to come to Rochester, there are a lot of different things to do here... plays, bars, clubs, or even something like painting pottery... if the bride likes that sort of thing... Here in Rochester, its not uncommon to drive an hour or so to Buffalo to go to the bars there.. they're open until 4am!! The bars in Rochester are open until 2am.. it makes for a fun, long lasting night and some great stories on the ride to and from Buffalo back home! LOL I've also heard that there's a new thing to do with your girls for your bachelorette party... a pole dancing lesson! I haven't done this, but there's a place here that holds parties that you can learn how to pole dance! LOL There's plenty of things to do here in NY... I hope you can find a friend of the brides to ask if she knows of things to do here.  But I'm sure you'll find some really nice, and fun things to do with her!! Good Luck!! :)
