Wedding Party

Wow. Imagine this happening!! Can you?

Given the posts we've had on this board over the past couple of days (and the reactions to the mean old hags telling them not to take a wedding too seriously), I thought I'd share this.

The little store I work in had our Christmas party tonight and talk turned to weddings.

One of the women had a couple of big things go wrong.  Her florist messed up the order and all of her girls had different bouquets.  The seamstress who altered all the girls dresses messed up the alterations and nobody's dress fit her.  They didn't get the dresses back from her until two days before the wedding.  The bride's sister was a manager at Macy's and let the girls in early and they all bought off the rack dresses.  She was telling this story laughing so hard she was crying.

Another woman told about the hideous BM dresses she picked out which she thought were the height of forward fashion.  All the BMs tried to talk her out of it and she wouldn't listen.  She also wouldn't listen to her mother who tried to tell her that her wedding dress was too low cut of a V-neck.  She said she looks back at her pictures and laughs.  She also had tears in her eyes laughing that the headpieces she had her girls wear looked like some sort of tree branch growing out of her heads and in the receiving line, she was clutching her dress at the chest otherwise she would have given everyone a peep show.  Halfway down the aisle she realized she needed to cover herself with her bouquet because mom was right.

  • You have to be able to laugh about this sort of thing.  I'm really glad they can.

  • How long ago were they married?  The crazy headpiece thing sounds very '80s or '90s.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • On this note, am I the only person who never understands why someone wants to look sexy on their wedding day?  I always see that on TV and never understand.

Also, this couple I know has their wedding photos (from the 80s) out for display in their house. She's wearing this headband that goes across her forehead and has a big poof in the back.  It's not a veil.
  • I love how the first woman just rolled with everything, and I'm glad that they can both laugh about it now. :)

Not gonna lie - I hope none of that stuff happens to me!!

  • My God Brooke... thank you for sharing that!  I'm mostly just scratching my head that someone chose their BM dresses from Titanic.

Yeah in a way I've always thought they kind of asked for it by picking something so complex (and the MIL saying she'd make her own pattern should have been a big red flag), but in another way their seamstress swore up and down she could do it, refused any help, and then left them hanging, which isn't cool.

  • The thing that stuck out for me was the contention that if the dresses didn't fit, then the bridesmaids would be kicked out of the wedding.  They couldn't just wear another dress they owned?

I do think the original Titanic dress was an odd choice.

I can't believe they never talked about it afterward!

That part stuck out for me as well.  But at least it sounded like the bride was not at all happy with that idea and it was being forced on her by the frantic MOB.
  • The bride put a stop to that idea immediately, and MOB was frantic, so I give them both a pass.

  • I'm so glad my mom didn't have nearly that kind of role in planning my wedding.  If she had thought that she could make those sorts of executive decisions about how things were going to go, she would have been in for quite the wake-up call...

  • I'm impressed with the MOB (except for the idea of kicking out bridesmaids) especially since she pulled all that off from a wheelchair.

*goes off to read about bridezillas* (Darn you for giving me yet another website to waste time on!)

Yeah, sorry, it'll occupy your life for awhile.  I discovered it in college and think I spent the whole weekend browsing through it.  Taught me a lot of what not to do loooong before I got engaged; not that I ever would have done so anyway, but killed anything in my subconscious that might have reared its ugly head.
