Groomsmen Tan Suits?

I really am considering having tan suits for the groomsmen in my wedding, but making them all buy a certain one could be really expensive. I was looking at overstock.com and found really cheap ones! But we have 7 groomsmen so I'm worried if I let them all buy their own, they'll all get different "tan" colors! So I guess I'm asking is if anyone knows anything about suits, can all suits labeled "tan" really look that different? Will it even really matter if they are different!? Thanks! :)

Re: Groomsmen Tan Suits?

  • I don't think it will matter if they don't match exactly.  A lot of brides have their bridesmaids all in a spectrum of one color, why not for the groomsmen too?
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • If you are expecting them to buy the suit, you should ask them individually what their budgets are.  Then pick out a suit based on their budget.  If you pick out a specific suit in a specific color then I don't know how they would end up being different colors.

Just curious, have you looked into them renting tuxes or suits?  Is the only option for them to buy?

  • We did tan suits for our wedding.  The guys rented them. They came to about $125 each with brown shoes, so similar to tuxes.
www.jimsformalwear.com has tons of different retailers all over the US.  We found ours through them.

My pics are coming from my photographer tomorrow (YAHOO!!) so PM me if you want me to send them.

  • Thanks for all the replies! I assumed we couldn't rent suits (but I only checked with Men's Warehouse lol) I'll look into that, thanks so much!! :)

And thanks for the men being picky tip, I didn't think of that! lol

  • I thought MW rented suits too- FI had one from there when he was a groomsman for his friend's wedding.  That's odd that your MW does't rent- the MW website has a section on tux rental that refers you to your local shops for pricing:

  • Yeah, my MW didn't rent suits.  But as above, Jim's does.  So does Selix.  We ended up renting them from a local, family owned suit shop, because the Jim's and Selix were both polyester.  They also offered us a deal where if any of them wanted to purchase, the got it for 1/2 off.  1/2 of our guys choose to purchase.
