How old to too old for a Ring Bearer???

I would really like to have my godson as our ring bearer at our wedding next fall.  He lives in Utah and we are in PA and don't get to see him very often, but still want him to be part of the day.  He will be 8 by then and is that too old?

  • My son was a ring-bearer when he was 9 for a close family friend. I think it depends on the kid and if THEY think they're too old. Doesn't hurt to ask if you want him! He could also be a groomsman if he'd rather.

  • Ditto coops.  If he feels he's too old, just call him a groomsman.  DH and I did that with our newphew; he was 10 and was super serious about doing a good job.  We love him for it!

  • This is my personal opinion, but in our case, we decided not to limit it. I have a 12 year old brother who we asked to be our ring "escort" because the name sounded more age-appropriate. He's not going to carry a pillow, but he will have the real rings, and we are asking him to supervise our ring warming ceremony. We are having him walk my niece (our flower girl) down the aisle--she's 7.
  • Mine is my son and he will be seven, eight the next month. He is excited, he said it sounds "Awesome"..lol his word.
