Wedding Party

Wedding Party

My fiance is really set on paying for the tuxes of all the groomsmen in our wedding. We have 6 groomsmen and 3 ushers. I feel its not unfair to ask them to pay for the rental. I am asking my BM's to buy their dresses. Am I wrong? And a side note we have just been discussing this amongst ourselves.

Re: Wedding Party

  • Typically, the WP pays for their own attire.

If they are having problems paying for it, then working with them is always nice.

If your FI has already offered, then he can't really take it back.

[QUOTE]We paid for all of our WP's attire.  I don't think it's wrong to pay for the tuxes but I do think it's pretty unfair to pay for one side's and not the other sides, personally.

</div><div>Same here.  We paid for both.  I know not everyone does, but we were already asking everyone to travel on a holiday weekend.  And frankly, I'd rather give up some of the cost of my own dress or decorations or wherever we found room to help my friends out.  </div>

Ditto this, especially the bolded bit.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • What everyone else has said is correct.

Our WP paid for their own tuxes with the exception of H older brother who couldn't afford it. IL's picked up the tab on that one. We paid for the wedding ourselves, so it would have been really hard for us to buy 6 GM's tuxes.
  • Typically the WP does pay for all their own attire, but like others have said- if your FI has already said he'd pay for the tuxes he can't take that back.

Stage brings up an excellent point about how unfair it would be if the guys got their tuxes paid for and the BMs didn't. If I were in that position, I'd be a little peeved.

  • FI thinks we are going to end up paying for the tuxes because our GM aren't the most reliable.  I told him if we pay for thiers, we have to at least contribute to the dresses as well.  I'm really not wanting to add this to the budget!

  • I don't really like the idea of making the ushers rent tuxes (unless it's a black tie event where everyone has to rent tuxes). Ushering is not a terrible position, but it's also not the best, I mean they are doing you a favor by helping out with the logistics of seating.
  • 1) I don't think it's necessary for the ushers to rent tuxes.  I think a nice suit they already own is fine.

    2) If you pay for the men's rentals, you need to pay for the women's dresses.  Fair is fair.

    3) The GM are adults and therefore perfectly capable of renting the tuxes themselves.

  • Like others said, if you're paying for one side, pay for the other.

  • I think it's strange to pay for one thing and not another.  Are the tux rentals more expensive than what the bridesmaids are paying for their dresses?  In that case, I could *maybe* see it, but a better option would be to supplement the cost until it comes out more evenly.
  • If the girls have to pay for their attire (which tends to be MUCH more expensive on average), the guys should have to pay for theirs.  When you agree to be in a WP, you agree to shoulder the costs of the attire.  This also means it's incumbent on the couple to make sure they get a price ceiling/range from the WP before picking out the attire.  So long as you aren't making the guys rent $300 tuxes when they told you they only wanted to spend $100, I don't think you're doing anything wrong at all.
