Wedding Party

Ever happen to you?

This is mostly venting but i'll try to make it short. One of my bridemaids called the bridal shop to say shes is dropping out of the wedding. They asked if the bride knew she said yes. (I didn't know) So they cancelled her dress. She claims to have called them back to say she changed her mind. (It was a money issue that she worked out) They have no record of this.

Fast forward a month, my mom calls for a different reason and finds out the order was indeed cancelled, when everyone tried to get in touch with her (my mom, maid of honor and store) she ignored everyone. So my mom got my groom involved (its his sister) Now everything worked out but the color will be off because her dress will not be dyed from the same color lot.

If this has happened to you, how did you react and 2nd how off was the color.

Re: Ever happen to you?

  • I would be really surprised if it was at all noticeable.  "Dye lots" are meant to induce panic and make brides buy immediately.  I'm sure it'll be a little different, but if it is, who cares?

Will you notice in a couple pictures?  Maybe.  Will you kick yourself for not booting the girl to have perfectly matchy-matchy dresses?  Doubtful.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • Have you even seen the dresses?  Usually the difference in dye lots is barely noticeable to the naked eye.  For my sister's wedding we got dresses from David's Bridal in Truffle that were all ordered from different stores at different times (my older sister got hers from eBay), and they all looked identical.

Pour yourself a good stiff drink and let this one go.  If it shows up and it's a drastically different color, deal with it then.  For now, you may be working yourself up over less than nothing.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I've seen plenty of bio pictures where the bride said that the BMs ordered from different salons or wholesalers, and you'd never know it. Dye lots are controlled by computers nowadays. And even if there IS a difference, nobody (probably not even you) would notice.

And ditto Babling, salons tell you to place all your orders from the same place so that they get all of your business. If you only have two girls living in town and four out-of-town, they want all six orders for themselves ... what business owner would ever tell you, "Sure, order the other four dresses from different stores! Dye lots don't matter!" Of course they're going to tell you, "OMG you MUST order all six from here so that the dye lots are the same!!!" (Translation: "We dont' want to lose four dresses' worth of profit!!!" Money mouth)

  • It is highly unlikely that the difference between dye lots (especially considering most of it is done by computers and machines now) would be so substantial that it would be noticeable by anyone or in pictures.

    Don't worry about it.
  • Dye lots are so insignificant. I would not worry about it. You're making yourself vent over something that will not even be noticed and probably won't even be remembered past the wedding.

  • I've been in several weddings, and every time we've taken care of ordering our dresses on our own, meaning they all came from different dye lots.  I've never noticed a difference in colors.  Actually, I'd never even heard to dye lots and getting all the dresses at the same time until the knot.  It will be fine.
  • For my wedding, I did BM dresses through David's Bridal (Not sure if you used them), and while picking them out my mom kept tormenting me about the BM dresses being ordered on the exact same date for dye lot purposes. After about 20 minutes of this, a sales girl actually walked over to us and explained (Very nicely) that nowadays everything since is computerized, the "dye lot" thing is utter bull sh!t.

Not sure if it's the same in private salons, but I really can't imagine it isn't.
