BM dress shopping later today!

Did any of you girls have any issues when you went BM dress shopping? All 5 of my girls will all be there at the same time, along with my very outspoken mother. I just want to be prepared. I am probably just worried way too much about this, but I cant help it. All my girls have way different personalities, and can just imagine something happening. The biggest thing I am worried about is two of the girls liking the same style of dress. I am letting them decide on the style and want them all in different dresses (all short and same color!). Any tips about how to handle this if it happens?

Re: BM dress shopping later today!

  •  Don't get stuck on each girl being in a different dress and you will be fine.  Insisting that only one girl can have a certain dress seems like a LOT of potential for problems.  Warn the girls that your mom is very outspoken and then you all need to CHOOSE to let her words roll off your shoulders.  Each girl should choose the dress she feel beautiful in.
  • Are any of your girls plus size or have any body issues they might be self conscious about? Focus on them. Dressing shopping may not be fun for them so be supportive. Otherwise I wouldn't think there should be too many issues. Good luck!
  • I agree that I would try to relax on wanting them all in different styles. With five girls they will probably choose a good mix on their own, but if two fall in love with the same one just roll with it. They will be happier and you will be less stressed. I'm doing mismatched dresses too and will be taking this approach. Hope you have fun!
  • Thank you ladies for your advice :] I really appreciate it. I didnt even think of the fact that two girls can def wear the same dress. Kmmssg, you are so right that they need to pick a dress they feel beautiful in. I really was focusing too much on them being in diff styles. Thank you again. I feel so much less stressed about it already.

  • My 4 bridesmaids and I went to DB last year to shop for their dresses. I had a similar approach, I picked a color and a length. After they all tried on several options, it turned out that 2 girls liked one dress and the other 2 liked another dress. So we had 2 girls in each of 2 styles and it looked fantastic! Plus everyone was happy with their dress style and felt comfortable at the wedding. For the ceremony, they stood in line alternating styles. Don't sweat it if more than one girl likes a particular dress.

  • Have fun! Five of my BMs, my mom, and my MIL, all went shopping for BM dresses together (only one of my BMs was unable to go).  I had gone shopping with just my mom previously, and narrowed down the color and general style that I liked.  We didn't have any issues, and all of the girls ended up loving the same dress, so everyone got the same one.
  • Sierra - you sound like a lovely, considerate bride.  Hoping to see some pics of you all picked out.  Hope you had a great day with your girls.

  • Hey ladies :] So, BM dress shopping was def an experience! First, Davids Bridal was PACKED!!! We didnt even get any fitting rooms for like 20 mins. But, once we got fitting rooms, our consultant (sp?) was very helpful. Its was the same girl that sold me my dress, so that was nice. Anyway, one of the girls was about 20 mins late, but since we didnt even have a room yet, it didnt matter. She also called and let me know she would be late. Wasnt a big deal at all. My MOH was also late but she was coming right off the highway from the 5 hour drive she had to take...with an 8yr old and a 3month old. I didnt even let it bother me.
Well, all the girls ended up finding all their dresses, with just one little rough patch. Two of the girls liked the same dress & decided they didnt want to wear the same one. It was kinda awkward, but in the end neither one of them got that dress. One of my girls found a dress she loved & when she went to go pay for it, they told her it wasnt available in the color she needed. We are going to go back up this week sometime to look again. They all got dresses that look amazing on & they feel good in them.
Afterwards I went to Michaels to get the supplies for my card box. I need to pick up a few more things tomorrow or monday, but got mostly everything today.

  • Congrats on the successful shopping trip!  I'm sure your girls are extremely grateful that you are letting them pick their own styles.  I know mine were!

I loved the look of the bridal party all in their own dresses.  And I'm a firm believer that a woman who is happy with how she looks and feels confident photographs MUCH better than a clone army!  Even with different fabrics and only the length and color uniting the dresses, all my girls coordinated beautifully.

Make sure you post pics of your bridal party here after the big day!  It really helps other brides-to-be relax about having clones when they see highly successful mixed dress BMs.
