Wedding Party

flowergirl dresses for toddlers

I have decided that I want my niece and nephew to be my flowergirl and ringbearer. My nephew will be almost five when we get married and my niece will be a little over a year and a half old. I will more than likely have her and her brother walk down the aisle together despite not having my groomsmen walk with my bridesmaids, so that she doesn't get scared when walking down the aisle. I am having issues finding a place where I can get her a flowergirl dress that will fit her. Davids bridal only goes down to size two which will be too big for her. Where can I find a flowergirls dress in a 24 month?

  • Your wedding isn't until June. Wait until after Easter when "flower girl" style dresses go on sale.  Forget going to bridal stores. They WAY overcharge you because it's for a wedding. The kid will outgrow the dress SO fast that it's not worth the money.

Target Easter dresses.  Consignment shop Easter dresses.  Kohl's Easter dresses.  Are you getting the picture here?  Any Easter dress will work well.

You don't want to buy a dress any sooner than that, because toddlers grow at different rates.  If you get a dress too soon, she'll outgrow it anyway. (ETA) or not grow into it.  It's impossible to predict what size a baby will be 9 months from now.

And stay away from anything called "Flower Girl dress".  You'll pay 4X what you need to.

  • My neice will be just over 1 when we get married as well. We bought her dress at JCPenny and it was like $25. They have a few of them. =)

The mom in me just wants to say that buying a dress NOW for a baby who will be wearing it 6 months from now is really dangerous.  A 12 month old can wear anything from a size 6-9 months to a toddler size.

OP, please wait until just before your wedding to buy a dress for a toddler, or you may well be wasting your money.

  • I was in the mall today and passed a little kiosk with lots of children's formal wear.  It's probably not terribly high-quality, but considering that she'll grow out of it in roughly six hours anyway, it should do the job.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I am basing my guesses on what she will be wearing then based on how quickly she has grown so far and the amount of time until the wedding. I haven't decided exactly what I want her dress to be like, so we are going to wait a while. In the meantime I'm looking for dresses that I might be interested in buying. It never hurts to look now.
  • I'm with PP. My flower girl will be 2 and small for her age. Im going to look at Target and JCPennys.
  • We bought my niece's "flower girl" dress at JCPenny 1 month before the wedding. I believe it was an Easter dress. You really don't know what size she is going to be so far in advance and if you buy it now you run the risk of it not fitting. Wait as long as possible before you buy.
