Registry/gift related poll

I know there is a registry board, but I figured I'd get more answers from here.  :)  I want to know what your favorite gift/ registry item, etc, you received was.  And what was the most ..interesting... one as well.  This came to mind when I received a bridal shower gift in the mail (someone who couldn't make it).  They sent towels (good) and then there was this:

In case you're wondering, it's a kangaroo salt and pepper shaker set.  It's from an older relative, and there was no explanation, but I found it amusing enough to share!  My favorite gift from my bridal shower was our new set of pans.

    Ummm..

    That image is freaking hilarious!!!
  • I was a little dumbfounded, I have to admit.  I'm not quite sure what to do with it!
  • AHAHAHAHAHA.  Hilarious!

We haven't received any wedding gifts yet -- it's still early -- but we did receive a couple of engagement gifts, including a set of plates from FMIL, a set of silverware from FI's cousin and his wife, and a set of pretty dessert plates from FI's grandmother.  Nothing too weird yet, though!

  • It's too early for shower and wedding gifts but my dad did get my FI and I a super coffee maker.  Neither of us drink coffee and he knows that.

  • I am actually laughing out loud on this one!  I am so glad that you said it was from an older relative because that really explains it all.  DH got a used hair brush from his great aunt (who really can't see and we think she's losing it).  We knew it was used because it had a couple of white hairs in it.  We think it belonged to her late husband.  We politely thanked her for her generous gift and moved on.

  • My shower is next wknd and I've been resgistry stalking. I was super excited to see that my Henckels knife block / set has been purchased. I cook alot and have never had nice knives so this is very exciting to me....I am also really hoping to get my food processer. It has a bigger capacity than the tiny one I have been using and I use that alot for dips / pureed veggies, etc.  Thankfully have not gotten any "interesting" items ala a kangaroo salt - n - pepper shaker set yet. ;-)

  • So far we're LOVING our espresso/capuccino maker. I was worried it would be a novelty item we'd never use, but DH fires that thing up almost every morning.

We didn't get any really strange gifts...the funniest was one from DH's uncle who called to ask where we were registered, then ended up buying us something we didn't register for from a different store (we think he forgot and was embarassed to ask again). We're also pretty sure the store employees wrote the enclosed card since the envelope was addressed to Emily and Roberto. DH's name is Rodolfo, which is the name the used on the card itself.
  • Way too early for our gifts, but I love the salt and pepper shaker!!!  That is too cute!
  • I think  the kangaroos are cute. Not so much for a clean lines modern kitchen, but at least to use on the kids' table at Thanksgiving.

We haven't registered yet because FI says we don't need more stuff, and doesn't believe me when I say that I'll get rid of the old stuff. I think he foresees us showing up on an episode of Hoarders with our condo packed to the ceiling with wedding presents. He's special.

I have a feeling that my favorite person will be the one that gets me that darned Kitchenaid mixer that I've wanted since I was like12.

  • lol everytime you look at the kangaroos your going to think of your relative. :) i think its to cute!   it def. makes since that an older person sent this.

we havent had our shower yet but i'd love to get the dyson animal vacumme. but its exp. i highly doubt i'll get it.
  • We're way to far out for anyone to have given us gifts.

I like the kangaroo salt and pepper shakers!  I've always been fascinated by kangaroos.
  • My mom got us our Kitchenaid stand mixer for Christmas, just in time for me to make the Christmas cookies.  I was thrilled.  And FI's uncle just sent us a deep fryer, which also promises to be much fun.

So far we haven't gotten anything truly strange.  Though FMIL's insistence on getting us our sheets was a bit odd.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • My favorite was also kind of the strangest, but it was a wedding gift, not a shower gift.  H's elderly aunt (or she might be a great-aunt) RSVPed "no" to the wedding, but sent a $20 bill in a wedding card with a really wonderful poem she wrote.  I thought the $20 was hilarious, it was like getting $5 from grandma on your birthday.  Just too cute!  And the poem was really special.  I've never even met the woman and it made me cry.
