Wedding Party

Bridal Party Attire

My bridesmaids will be wearing royal blue dresses while carrying fuschia pink bouquets and the groomsmen will be wearing black tuxs with royal blue ties and fuschia pink boutinnieres. I was told that it wont look good in pictures. I need your suggestions/help. Thank you so much!

Re: Bridal Party Attire

  • Its hard to tell if your colors would look good without seeing them together.  I found a picture online and while the colors aren't exactly right, if they're close to what you're thinking I think they look really nice together: http://bestdreamwedding.onsugar.com/tag/Blue+Bridesmaid+Dresses

The only thing I would question is whether the blue and fuschia accents on the guys' black tuxes would be too much going on.  If that's the case you could keep the royal blue and tone down the boutonniere.

If I were you I'd get some color swatches and put them together.  That way you can see for yourself what your colors will look like.  Good luck!

  • Why wouldn't it look good in pictures?  It sounds pretty to me!  Search for pictures of weddings using those colours - I think Style Me Pretty has done at least one inspiration board with those colours.

  • Yeah I definitely think it could look good. I actually think if you're going to do two very bold colors it sometimes looks better to have the other color in the flowers, rather than trying to have them both in the attire. I would have to see exactly what you were planning to do for the guys to have an opinion. If you have a really vibrant tie, then maybe have a little more muted bout. or something. Or maybe you could have a white or black tie and a pink and blue bout.

I like it.  That was our original color scheme, but the girls fell in love with a dress that only came in navy, so we did that instead.  (PIB)

I do recall seeing royal and fushia in a magazine ad a while ago, though.
  • OMG! I love those colors together! Me and my guy have talked about using these colors. I think they'll look great in the pictures. :)

  • I don't see why that color combo wouldn't work--I've seen it done and it's very pretty; if you were making the GM wear fuchsia tuxes I might say something, but I think you've got just the right balance.  FWIW, don't worry about bouts making or breaking your photos--our florist screwed up big-time on our bouts: she basically put a huge gardenia in the middle of five leaves, so they all looked like they were wearing (depending on who you ask) big green stars or state-fair ribbons.  They looked ridiculous, but everyone's smiling faces distracts you from the ridiculous bouts so you find yourself not paying that much attention to them.

Pick colors you want--if the WP likes them, go for it.  You don't look at your wedding photos all that much, so don't base any wedding photos around them.

This is one of the few situations where I will actually say, "It's your wedding, don't listen to what other people say."

  • Hmm, did the photographer tell you this?

Some colors look great together but then just don't work in photographs depending on the light.  I used to make costumes and it was always the delicate blues that looked so pretty in natural light or in the fabric stores but when we lit them for filming there was nothing we could do and still get enough light to prevent them from becoming a bland cadet blue if they were with other warm colors.  I once made a whole set of periwinkle goddess dresses that photographed as cheap scub blue.  So sad.

That said, if it is just a photography issue, they can adjust the colors later.  I can only assume that this would cost a bit more but you have a fantastic color scheme so it might be worth it.
  • I've seen the colors together before. Very beautiful combination. Don't listen to people about these things. Too many cooks in the kitchen, right? If you like it, stick with it. Only ask for opinions if you're truly looking for answers or for doubting yourself.
