Re: WPBP of the day

  • Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)? I live in a VERY tiny city.  However, there was ONE SHOT of "Gilmore Girls" that was filmed about two miles away from where I live.  So that was kind of cool.

A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood: Fried dough.

Favorite commercial right now: The Old Spice "I'm on a horse" commercial.

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise? It started at $1 a week, but I got it up to $4 as I got older.

  • Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)? I live in NYC where a MILLION movies have been filmed. For starters, Sex and the City, New York Minute, Sleepless in Seattle, 13 Going on 30, and West Side Story.

In my county in CA, Sideways was filmed.

A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood: My mom's casserole. It's so delicious, but really fatty.

Favorite commercial right now:I laugh inside at the tampon commercial with the chick talking about what she loves about her period.

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise? My allowance was $5 until high school when I asked for a raise to $10. I  made a good case "mom, you can't even go to the movies o $5. I have to save for 3 weeks just to get a ticket and candy!"

  • Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)?
Lots of them. the Grindhouse movies by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino were filmed right near my house when I lived in a more rural section. I even followed QT into the city one morning (by accident of course). He was driving the yellow sports car from the movie.

There was a movie about UT cheerleaders, and Friday Night Lights (both the movie and the series) were filmed here. Alamo was done right southwest of here in Dripping Springs. Austin is a big movie town...
A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood:
My aunt's shrimp (or crawfish) and rice dish. I love it!
    Favorite commercial right now:
    I have Tivo. I don't watch commercials ;)

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise?
It started out as 50 cents a week in 3rd grade, and went up to $3 per week in HS. Anything else I had to earn.

  • Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)? Yes, lots! But they're Chilean movies, so you've probably never heard of them :) One that's good and not too hard to find is Machuca - story of the 1973 coup told through a friendship between 2 boys. I also went to UCLA, and LOTS of movies are filmed there.

A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood: I was just thinking this morning I want to find my mom's hollandaise sauce recipe and make eggs benedict. That was always our Christmas/other special mornings breakfast.

Favorite commercial right now: Don't have one here, don't know the US commercials

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise? I didn't get an allowance, my parents would usually just give me some money to go do things as long as it was a reasonable expense.
  • Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)?  I just googled this because I didn't know of any, but apparently Seabiscuit, Mr. 3000, Summer Catch, and Traffic were filmed here (Not sure how correct that is, though.)

A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood: My mom's beef tri-tips over rice and her chocolate cake

Favorite commercial right now: I LOVE that Old Spice commercial!!

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise?  I think it was $3 or $5...I don't think I ever asked for a raise.
  • Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)? Deep Impact...my family almost decided to be extras, until we learned it would be in July and we couldn't have A/C on in our cars haha

A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood:  macaroni and ground beef...apparently I used to call it "mac and pete" lol

Favorite commercial right now:  hahaha the one for that new kotex tampon...the one where the girl is making fun of normal tampon commericals.  TOO funny

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise?  $1.00 lol....I think it may have gone up $5 at one point

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise?
I worked in my dad's office for $25 a week in the summers between the ages of 9 and 12. I don't think I ever asked for a raise.

Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)?  Yes.  In Her Shoes (Cameron Diaz), a new movie with Jack Nicholson, the recent movie with Jamie Foxx, Transformers 2 (this was actually filmed right next to the building I work in.  All the girls hung out to see Shia LeBeouf.  All the guys stayed at night to watch them film the car chase scenes).  Many others and many more, I hear...

A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood: Burgers with ketchup, mustard and a pickle (a la McDonalds).

Favorite commercial right now: I'm sorry, but I seriously love Flo, the Progessive lady.

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise? $5 - and I earned it by making my bed every day.  Once, my dad started to give it to me and I told him that I forgot to make my bed one day that week.  He was so flustered that I'd be that honest and give the money back.

That accent reminds me of Britney Spears, in that last interview before the breakdown where she chewed gum the whole time. I don't know what it is about that voice.

Favorite commercial right now: The Miller Lite commercial where the guy can't say "I Love You" (I luuurve...lol)
When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise? Never really got an allowance...my dad would give me money every so often, but I never "earned an allowance"
  • suz, I love the doritos commercial too. "Keep your hands off my mama, keep your hands off my doritos."

And as for the pothole commercial, I find it funny too. Let me dial my cellular, oh shoot, I can't, cuz I'm a pothole and all....K, bye!

[QUOTE]A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood: It's called Toad Hide. My grandma would take leftover pie crust, roll it out, put pats of butter, sugar and cinnamon on it with a cap of milk in the center. Bake it until the crust is golden and eat the deliciousness. I always loved when she made pies and Toad Hide is why.

  • Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)?   A lot, I'm sure.  Toronto is considered a cheap alternative to filming in an American city.

A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood: Sugar cookies :)

Favorite commercial right now: I don't even know what commercials are on.  We PVR everything.

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise?
      I didn't have an allowance.

I'm with some of the others in this thread, though.  I don't understand making the bed.  You're just going to mess it up again that night!

  • Have any movies been filmed in your city? If so, which one(s)?  I live in Orange County and work in downtown Los Angeles.  So, yeah, every inch of Southern California has been filmed at some point.  The opening sequence of Ghostbusters was filmed in my building.

A recipe or food that makes you go back to childhood:  My mom's Christmas cookies.

Favorite commercial right now:  I haz DVR.  No commericals for me!

When you were younger, what was your allowance? Did you ever ask for a raise?  Hmm, don't recall.  I know we had paid chores that we could do to earn money, but I don't think I got an allowance.

  • Haha, thanks, Stina. Now, who wants to guess what I'll be doing tonight while DH is at massage class?

Oh, that's news...as of Tuesday DH is studying to be a masseur. He first mentioned it about a year ago, looked into it with a friend who is a masseur for the Chilean national teams in December, and decided on our HM that he wanted to go for it. So until December, he's got class twice a week. I'm excited for the part where he gets to start practicing his technique!

Favorite commercial right now: The VW one with Stevie Wonder.

Did you ever ask for a raise? N/A
