Ring bearer?

I have a 6 year-old son who will be the ring bearer at my wedding. Here is my question: do we tie the rings to the pillow that he carries down, or do we put false rings on the pillow and have the MOH and BM hold the rings? I trust my son, I know he wouldn't lose the rings, so I want him to carry them, but then what happens when he gets to the end of the aisle? Does he give the rings to the MOH and BM? Does he give them to my FI and I? I'm getting married in Feb and working on small details now and this just occured to me...

Re: Ring bearer?

  • I wouldn't put the real rings on the pillow.  You just never know.  As much as you trust your son~he might balk when it's time to come down.  The rings could somehow come untied.  They could be hard to untie creating an awkward moment.

Give the real rings to the officiant, BM/MOH, and let your son have "just for show" rings.

  • Thanks...now I'm wondering if he even needs to carry rings, what if he just walked the flower girl down the aisle? Hmmm...I'm sorry, I guess I just have a weird thing with him not having a "real job" in the ceremony, lol. I know he really wants to be in the wedding and I can see his face when he learns he is just supposed to walk down the aisle holding a pillow :-)

  • Our RBs carried the real rings, but they were also 11.

  • He can carry a little pillow.  Or he can carry nothing.  It's really your call.  If you prefer, he can carry his Thomas the Tank Engine, or his Spiderman figurine, or a teddy bear~all with pretend rings attached.  It doesn't have to be a pillow.  =)

  • Maybe we can put rings on his Harry Potter wand... :-)

  • Tie them around a hippogrif's neck!  Actually, I love the wand idea.....

I'm going to start re-reading "Deathly Hallows" in the next two weeks so I'll be all prepared when the movie opens.  Can't wait!

brooke:  are you re-reading the books first?  Younger DD and I plan to re-read Deathly Hallows before November movie comes out, and then re-read the whole series before the second half of deathly hallows, and the last of the movies =(   comes out.

ETA:  That's why I probably won't get to the book you recommended to me for a bit.

  • Is it too nerdy for me to admit that I probably re-read Deathly Hallows once a year?  Both it and Half Blood Prince are good for long flights--I know it'll hold my attention for hours!

  • Thank GOD I'm not the only HP nerd here...

If I can get my books back from my ex before next month, I plan to re-read Deathly Hallows at the very least before the next movie comes out...

And OP, I think it would be adorable if you put "rings" on his wand, maybe tie them to the end so that they hang there like he's doing a spell? (Yep...I'm a dork...)
  • Not going to have time to re-read but when Deathly Hallows came out, I got the book, put a lot of pillows in my window seat and read it in one sitting.  Friends and I were texting eachother the page numbers we were on.  Once I finished, I reread the entire series and had to keep myself from annotating things like Harry feeling like Snape could read his mind in The Sorcerer's Stone.

Me too!  People made fun of me but I was really invested in the end.  Proud to say I predicted Snape's Secret way back in book 5 :)

  • I'd personally let him carry the rings in the ring box or a nice small decorative box, then hand them off to whoever will hold them until the ring exchange (FI, the best man or the officiant).
