I don't know if i made much mention but we are having the worst flood in 300 years. It has wiped out cabins, homes etc. The lakes & rivers can't handle the water and about a 500km area is affected right now. Tomorrow morning they have to break a dike and flood a 225km area and all those homes just to release some water before it bursts many dikes. I am safe they say, i am 3 miles west from the dike breach and they figure it will go south east. I am going to post a link with pics, i live by portage la prairie and brandon which keeps being mentioned in the article is 1 hr 15 mins west of me (i said 1hr 45 mins on my blog oops) this just goes to show you how big this problem is right now.
In 4 days they have spent 70 mill fighting this and my community has donated thousands of dollars worth of food & supplies (gloves, shovels etc) for those sandbagging. It is getting doom time, we started out with 300 armed forces (i live ON an air base with the army base 45 mins away) we now have 1600 armed forces in the area and they have sent them from as far away as edmonton which is over 1000 miles away. They are not even letting the air force continue their training (my base trains air force pilots), they have closed the airways except for flood prep, they have to fly sandbags to some places and drop them because the roads are inaccessible so they are using the helicopters for that and keeping the planes grounded. I hear heli's all the time but today i have heard more than ever so that tells me they are doing a lot of work.
This is the craziest disaster my community has faced since the cyclone in 1922 (we have had some nasty nasty blizzards but the inpact is nothing compared to this) The only good thing is that the community rallies together and most people (not everyone) does their part because in reality if we know each other or not we are all neighbors and it affects us all. We have been on edge for 4 days waiting to find out when/if they are breaching the dike, keep us in your prayers.
