I just got off the phone with FI and I want to get your take on something. FI's friend from work got engaged a few months ago to a girl that I don't particularly care for. Just as background, the girl is well to do. I mean REALLY well to do. Anyhow, she recently decided that she's going to ask every vendor for their wedding to donate what she pays them for the wedding to a particular charity. Her goal is to get every one of them to donate their pay and then inform the guests that x amount from their wedding is going to charity.
Okay, here's my issue. I have absolutely nothing against giving to charity. I volunteer for at least two charities at any given time and donate to others when I can afford to. In my opinion though, if this girl wants to give to charity she should do it on her own. Doing it in the way she has planned seems to me like essentially the vendors are donating to charity and then she's taking credit for it.
I mean, am I missing something? Am I completely wrong in seeing this as a little messed up? Maybe I'm just biased because I don't care for the girl, but I've never heard of anyone doing this I'm really not a fan of her plan.
