Show me your....

...altar bouquets! I am meeting with our florist tonight and need some inspiration. I am trying to downsize the budget....

Here is my original idea that I later found out was just too expensive:

I clicked this because it said you had 25 posts already on this thread and I wanted to know how that happened so fast...TK was lying to me!  (Hate when that happens.)

Those arrangements are beautiful.  I don't have any ideas as of yet, although we are getting married outside and our "backdrop" will be a flower garden and an arbor so I'm not quite sure that I will add anything.

  • Right now I'm not thinking of having any since it will be outside and I don't want too much to interfere with the view.  So really that means I have no idea.

    Stupid Knot!! haha!

We are getting married outside too. I am torn on whether I need altar bouquets or not. My thoughts are to get something that can be moved to the tent for the reception. I am not having an arbor, just a wooden cross. I want the focus to be the cross. I just thought having something on each side of FI and I would be nice. Maybe I dont need anything? Thoughts?

  • Could you maybe show this picture to your florist and ask them how they could change it to better fit your budget?  That's what we did with our centerpieces; I showed him my inspiration, he gave us the quote (waaaay too high!), I told him where I wanted to be cost-wise, he came back with a less expensive, but very beautiful, alternative.

Ours will be in the church and the altar is already very elaborate, we are not having any flowers on the altar.  So I don't really have any pictures/ideas to contribute.

But for what it is worth, FSIL got married outside and they just had a table behind the officiant, no floral arrangements and the unity sand was the only thing on the table.  I don't think the lack of flowers took away from anything.  I was too busy watching them and waiting to see if the groom would cry :)

  • For our "altar" we're going to have a 6-foot table set up behind the officiant with a tablecloth that my grandma's going to make, and then my mom's going to make a silk arrangement for the middle of the table. It's also going to be our table centerpiece. So, I have no idea what it's going to look like yet! Haha. But I would talk to your florist. Maybe she can make a smaller version that can sit on stands or something?

  • Since it is the end of the Easter season, the curch will still be decorated for Easter so I'm just going to have those decorations up.

  • I don't think we are doing alter flowers, but here are a few that I think are really pretty..

  • We're getting married in a field, no altar for us. Nature provides those decorations for free. :)
  • Thanks for the suggestions Ash!

Here is what our cross will look like:

It will be positioned behind a round patio brick area that my dad built. Something liek this:

(no fire pit in the middle obviously)

and our seating will be laid out like this:

Not sure if we need any alter flowers... but if we have them then will be on the side of FI and I between us and the WP. Get what I mean?

We're also getting married outside so the only thing I will be doing in terms of decorations is putting these rope things that have large shells and starfish attached on the arch that's being provided.

ETA: here's what the rope (<- clicky) looks like
  • Chelsea, that is really pretty.  I don't think you need the flowers.

  • I think what you have is great! The cross will really center the ceremony area and you probably don't need much more than that. But if you want flowers you could do two smaller stands of flowers in vases or a large boquet on each side. If you don't do too many flowers, or find cheaper options you would be fine (your florist could suggest ideas for making the arrangements more affordable)

we will probably be doing some type of arch, possibly with fabric. Then I am doing a random mix of vases and yellow flowers on each side of the arch. This is what the flowers will kinda look like.

<div>This. haha.  We are getting married in the mountains so there will be a gorgeous skyline behind us. We are trying to cut budget and flowers seems to be the place we both agree to do it.  We figured the scenery outside will be plenty.</div>

  • We're doing an indoor ceremony, but these are really pretty outdoor ceremony deor I've seen online:
http://pinterest.com/pin/384282182/ - I don't know how much something like this would cost, but it's beautiful!!

http://pinterest.com/pin/307326229/ - You could make a tree your altar and hang things from it like this.

http://pinterest.com/pin/198712276/ - This is really gorgeous too!

    http://pinterest.com/pin/171363019/ - And this.

I really don't think you need a ton of flowers or decor because being outdoors is beautiful enough.  I think if you had some simple aisle decor and something really pretty for the altar, that would speak for itself, but that's just my opinion. :)

  • I have no idea what ours will look like, I just told the florist I wanted purple and white flowers in a basket. Ha, I guess I'll find out when I get to the church what they look like!

  • Thanks everyone! I think you are right.... I probably dont need anything more up front. That will save a TON of money. My original idea was going to cost $400. I will be having pomanders to line the aisles so I think I will have plenty!!

  • These are the pictures I gave to my florist and told her I wanted something with a similar feel.  She's using hydrangea, white/blue stock, calla lilies and curly willow.  The estimate for altar arrangements on our quote was $50/each so we're doing two and then using them at the reception as well.

  • I agree with others that you do not need anything. Are you doing a Unity candle or sand. If you want to do something small, you could put some flowers around those, but nothing huge.

We are doing unity sand, so we will have a small wicker table off to one side. That is a good idea... we could do a small arrangement on that table. Thanks!

  • I really don't think you will need anything.  If you desperately want flowers, I would see if you could pick up some of those large vases at Michael's or AC Moore (with a 50% coupon of course) and talk to a florist about similar tall arrangements that work better with your budget.  However, the way you have described it with the cross and patio outdoors it sounds beautiful as is.

  • Mine will pretty much look something like Katelyn's. They'll be sitting behind the altar.
