I know it's a little early to be talking about veils, but this came up by email the other day and I'm not sure how to handle it.
We have a "family veil" that was brought here from Ireland by my grandmother. I don't think my grandmother wore it, so it hasn't been in the family for too, too long. One of my aunts emailed me a few weeks ago to offer the veil as my something old and something borrowed (it's okay to double count, right?). I reponded positively, even though I have not seen this veil in person. All I know about it is that it is a mantilla and there is lace involved.
Last week, when I tried on dresses, I tried on a few styles of veils and I really disliked the long ones on me. I liked ones that had a little volume at the grown and that hit somewhere above my elbow.
Does anyone know if a mantilla can be alterned, without damanging it, to be shorter and a little more poufy? I'm wondering if it can be doubled up or something like that.
If that's impossible, I'll just wear the mantilla and deal with it. I don't want to upset my aunts and mother over it. I'm just curious.
