Ceremony Programs

Do I need one for every person? We are doing (I think) program fans and they are expensive ($2/each) so getting one for every person would be very expensive. Anyone know what I am supposed to do?

Thanks!!

I went to a wedding where they only had enough programs for every family, and it seemed very tacky to me. I personally think there should be enough programs for every person.

  • I think the right thing to do is get one for every person but I understand how expensive that can be. This is why I am having a hard time deciding what to do for programs.

  • Hmm..... I was hoping to do one per couple (none for kids)..... I have heard someone people say they arent even doing ceremony programs. Our programs will only have our bridal party, parents and grandmothers listed. There will be no ceremony information. I dont know if that  changes anything...

  • One per couple may work. My only thoughts are: are you getting married outside, if so everyone may need one to fan. Also, What about DYI...everything DYI is least expensive and a program fan ( with the correct software amy work)

    Just a suggestion.

  • What kind of program fans are using? Maybe we could help you find them cheaper. $2 is a lot of money.

I think you should have them for all of your guests, although I do agree that many people choose to do without programs altogether.  I'm on the fence about them, but if I do them I will definitely be DIYing them.

Here is one link I saved that I loved.  Hers were about 50 cents a piece, but they are pretty extravagant.  You could easily do them for cheaper.

  • I agree with one per person.  Would you consider not doing the fans and making more traditional programs?

I agree with PP - you need one for each attendee. That said, we're not doing programs. I think they are an unnecessary optional expense, especially since our guests are all family and friends. If you are open to not having programs, you could then just get plain bulk fans for pretty low price and then every person will have a way to keep cool since that seems to be your main intent. You could also add a cute DIY touch by making a stencil with your names and date and spray paint it onto each fan.

  • Do I need to include one for every kid that is invited?

  • I would DIY them if I were you. $2 is a little pricey especially for how big your wedding is. I have a template I can email you if you want that I'm using

If you want the font to match your invitations could you get a PDF from the Etsy designer and print them yourself?  It would be easy to round the corners and sandwich two pieces of cardstock around a thick craft stick.

ETA: I wouldn't think you would need a program for each kid invited.  We usually just take one between the two of us when we go to a wedding.

  • In my experience one per person is way too many, and you end up with a bunch left over that people don't take (I have dabbled in invite/program design and assembly for weddings of friends and family as a hobby).

Usually small children don't take them, many guys don't take one if their significant other has one, etc.  To be safe, I would shoot for having enough programs for ~75% of the total number of guests.  Even then I am sure you will have some left over.

I think the reason many people would opt to take one is because they are fans.  If it's a hot day, I'm sure almost all of the guests would like a fan to keep cool...maybe not the kids, though.  Otherwise, I agree with some of the PPs that not everyone takes a traditional program.
