Honeymoon Budget

So, FI and I are working with our travel agent looking into our honeymoon, and we got talking about what we all thought the average HM budget is... so out of curiosity I figured I'd ask :)

Re: Honeymoon Budget

  • I put $1000 - $3000, but our is under $1000. We are just doing a small honeymoon and doing a big one for our 1yr. Not sure yet what we will do for our one year but it will probably still be in the $1000 - $3000 range.
  • We decided to do something small for our HM. We figured the goal was to spend time together alone, not sight see. So we are going to a resort on Lake Superior. His business partner/mentor is goign to start doing trip incentives for him at some point in the next year, so we will be doing a lot of travelling because of that and for free!

  • My aunt is paying for our airfare and we are flying out to Victoria, BC for a week. Hotel rooms will cost around $800, and other than that we are just paying for food for the week. Just getting away and enjoying the time alone!

    I agree.
  • We decided to do a 3 week HM and are spending a crazy amount of money on it.  We saw it as our last big trip before kids.  We will be 29 and 31 when we get marriend and more than likely will start a fmaily within the first few months.

<div>We are also taking 3 weeks + in Hawaii so our budget is high. But not because we will be having kids-just because this is the only time we will be able to convince ourselves/be able to take off for a month! </div>

  • Going in to planning we said we didn't want to spend over $5000 - which included everything: airfare, hotel, extra excursions and spending money.  We got everything we wanted (8 nights/7 days in the Riviera Maya) and came in well under budget!

  • We haven't booked anything yet, be we're planning on staying in the $3,000-$5,000 range including flights. That's the most expensive part!

Right now we're thinking Bermuda because it's beautiful and a short-ish flight.
  • I started out with a budget of under $4,500 for everything and was planning an all inclusive in Mexico for a week.  I could have definitely done this with my budget.

I switched to ten days in Europe and now my budget is up to $6,000.  I figure that we only get one honeymoon so I wanted to go all out.  I would have loved ot go for longer, but there is no way I would have gotten the time off.

  • I am super excited about our honeymoon.  We are going on a two week Mediterranean Sea cruise.  I think we are paying more for our honeymoon than the amount of money we are contributing to our wedding.  This is going to be the biggest trip we take until we retire probably!!

Lots and lots of money spent on this wedding item :)

  • Laura, what cruise are you taking? FI and I want to do the same thing. Since we can't go till next year, I haven't started to really price anything out yet.
  • We decided to splurge on our HM.  We figured we are only going to have one.  Plus, we know Hawaii is expensive and we were afraid that if we don't do it now we will never get a chance to do it because it will be too expensive when kids come into the picture.
  • We're doing a week at a cabin on Lake Michigan.  Since we can drive, our only expenses are gas, the cabin, food, and entertainment.  We should be well under $2,000 when all is said and done.  We wanted time alone together but didn't want to spend a ton of money as we will probably start a family before long.

  • We are taking a cruise for our honeymoon. Our budget is right at about $3000 - hopefully it will stay at about that.

  • Ours is kind of hard to determine a budget.  FMIL offered her timeshare for us to use, so the resort is free.  However, we are paying for flights (estimating around $1000) and spending money there (another $1000ish) so I picked the first category.

  • @laurabub - which one?  We are leaving 6/15 and doing Spain, France, Italy and Croatia.

About 30% of the total wedding spend is on our HM - But then again I am doing silk rose centerpieces and no party favors.  So I cut out that stuff so we could spend more on the HM.

  • My budget is just over $3000 but we have nothing booked yet and don't have to pay for a resort (my aunt is with her timeshare).  The only reason ours is that price even without the resort is because we want to do some adventurous stuff while we're gone and that gets expensive.

We're doing 10 days in Europe split between France and Italy. Based on my research I did yesterday, we're up to about $5500 for flights, train passes, and hotels. We've traveled a bit within the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean (as well as FI living there for 2 years and me for a summer), so we really wanted to go to Europe for our honeymoon. I've also never been and it's our last chance to go before kids, so we wanted to splurge a little.

We are going with Princess Cruise Lines....it's called the "Grand Mediterranean" and we will be gone for 12 days.  It goes to ports such as: Venice, Athens, Turkey, Naples, Rome, Florence, Monte Carlo and then we end up in Barcelona, Spain.

I hope we have a great time, but I can just imagine how exhausted we will be when we get home!

We're not planning on going until the following winter, because we want to do Disney when the weather is reasonable and the crowds are down.  As such, we haven't actually priced anything  yet, but I took a shot in the dark and guessed 3-5k.  I think my mother took our entire famliy to Disney for a week for less than $3k, but we also did everything uber cheap-o style; I'd like to go a little nicer this time through!

  • This is our splurge for our wedding...we'll likely be spending between $5000-6000. FI and I LOVE to travel...our almost first date was a trip to Seattle. We've done a few adventurous vacations together and this will be our first relaxing, seculded vacation. Right now we are looking at Cocos Hotel in Antigua.

I know both of us are looking more forward to the honeymoon than the wedding. I just want alone time with my FI, the planning is so stressful I am BEYOND EXCITED for this.

Your price point sounds about right. Last year FI and I went to Disney and we never added it all up, but we guesstimate that we spent between $2500 and $3000 for 8 days/nights. We didn't stay on Disney property, so our hotel was less than an equivalent at Disney and we didn't fly, but we also bought tickets to Universal and Cirque du Soliel. We also ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Disney restaurants each day (including probably two sit down meals a day) and that definitely wasn't cheap, and if you stay at Disney you'd be able to do the dining plan which probably would have worked out cheaper for us in regards to food. I definitely think you'd be able to do Disney very nicely on $3-5K.

  • FI and I love to travel. Planning the honeymoon has been the best part for us. Actually, "where are you going to go on your honeymoon?" was the first thing people asked us when we got engaged. We are going to Turkey and taking a cruise out to the Greek Isles for a total of 2 weeks. This is perfect for us. We are using travel rewards and points such as frequent flier miles and hotel points.
