NWR: I feel like crying

Last week we were told the office would be closed Friday Dec 23, Monday Dec 26, and Monday Jan 2 (except for rare occasions, no one works weekends). Now I just got an email saying EVERYONE is expected to be at work every day-no time off. I just want to cry. And there is nothing I can do about it. I'm going to PA Saturday and Sunday to be with my family, but I had planned on having Friday and Monday off to travel and to get some things done. Now I have to pay over $100 to get a train back to NYC early Monday morning.

And to top it all off: the person handing down this mandate does not arrive in the office before 1pm any day. Thanks jerkface.

  • I am so sorry. That makes me want to cry for you. He really is a grinch.
  • boo.I lost a vacation day, too. I don't have to go to work, but it went from being a personal day off to a site closure. We were furious! I'm on vaca now, and I still had to call into a 7:00 AM call.
  • Do you have any documentation of them telling you that the office would be closed?  If you do, I would honestly expect them to pay for your ticket back.  They're the ones that changed their minds, so they're the one's that should pay for the ticket difference if they really want you there.
  • I'm sorry. I feel for you. FI is suppose to be off all next week as scheduled vacation. Well they didn't get a certain test finished so it looks that he will have to work a couple days because he is one of the few actually staying in town. Sucks!

<div>This. That is terrible! If they said you could have that time off, they should be able to just change their minds all of a sudden! </div>

<div>Our whole project got the same correspondence and since we are all freelancers, there really isn't anything we can do. Our contracts state that the company basically has the right to demand we work whenever they want/, subject to change without notice. And being a freelancer, if the office is open and I don't come to work, I don't get paid (normally I do get paid for certain holidays like Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc). Bah humbug. I usually love my job and beinga  freelancer but the holidays is hard.</div>
