This past weekend my parents and FI parents had an engagement party for us - it was wonderful! We had so much fun and we are so grateful for them and everyone who came.
I know that you are supposed to send out thank you notes right away, I'm not questioning that, but what exactly is right away? I've always been a big thank you note person, I send them for everything and make them personal. I wrote all of them for our friends, my family and his immediate family that I know, and mailed them out Tuesday morning.
My question is for the people I don't know, and just met Saturday from FI family - there are a lot of them (huge Italian family). FI got called into work crazy shifts the next 2 weeks (overnight, then straight to a day shift, sleep for 5 hours back to work for 16 hours). So realistically I won't see him, let alone sit and write thank you notes with him, until the end of next week. We also had a ton of pictures from the party and I tried to include pictures of our guests in their thank you notes, kind of difficult if I can't remember who is who!
So my question is do I send out the basic "thank you for your thoughtful gift and celebrating our engagement" generic note to the people I'm not sure of? Or wait until FI can do them with me so I can make the note more personal with him knowing the people? I just don't want to wait too long to send them out.
I'm sure I'm way over thinking this I just don't want to offend anyone - especially his family.
