Fitness group question

Hi Ladies! I figured I'd start a new post since our weekly check-in is a bit down the screen already and as we've already kinda discussed the Get In Shape girls are scary haha..

I've been doing pretty well with my workouts.  I've been running more often and I did 5 miles yesterday pretty easily without stopping.  I'm not trying to lose weight, just trying to tone up a bit, but something my FI has been telling me about has been bothering me and I want to know if anyone knows if this actually holds merit or not.

He claims that I need to be eating more because if your daily caloric intake is less than 1500 calories your body then goes into "fat storage mode".  Meaning you aren't enough calories so your body automatically turns your calories into fat trying to store up.

Has anyone else heard of this?  I just feel like 1500 calories a day would be a lot for me (unless I was eating some type of fast food).
