Re: TMI QOTD - 12/13

• I have Mirena. It is an IUD. It took a year for my body to adjust to it, but now I love it. I haven't had a period since August!
• I'm on Seasonic.

• I'm on the pill....but honestly, I'm so bad about taking them everyday, we have to use condoms every time too - you would think after  8 years I'd be a ltitle better about this by now!

• I was on lo estrin fe but I had some side effects I didn't like so I stopped taking them about a year ago. So our form of birth control are condoms right now until we decide to ttc. When I was on the pill we still used condoms because my sister actually conceived while on the patch and I didn't want to take chances.

• I'm on the pill and have been for 10+ years. I was on Nortel 7-7-7 for the longest time, but recently I switched to Tri-Sprintec.

• i am on ocella which i think is a generic for yaz. i was on seasonique but i had awful acne so my obgyn switched me. it is annoying having a period every month but i figure it will get my body back into a normal rythym for when we ttc.

i would also be sooo paranoid not having a period for a year.

• FI and I only use condoms. It sucks but my doctor took me off the pill because of my blood pressure.
I'm on Lo Estrin 1.5, I like it a lot. I loved Yasmin but with the class action I made my OBGYN change it, it took almost 2 years of bad pills to find this one. As for the Mirena, I'd be so paranoid if I didn't get my period for a year. I'd probably take a pregnancy test every single month.
Posted by diamondx423
I was the same way at first, but I just don't expect them anymore and I only get nervous if I have symptoms. I keep tests in the house all the time. Just in case I start to worry.

I used to take the pill, but it got to a point that everytime I put the pill in my mouth I would heave. It was too hard for me to take them everyday. Even the thought still makes my stomach turn. This really is the best solution for me. :)
• I am on tri-cyclen lo. It's fine and dandy and has reduced the number of days I am on my period and the severity, but I have absolutely no sex drive. Anyone else have that problem?

For Chelsea and Ashn, have you noticed any weight gain from the IUD? Has it had any effect on your sex drive?

I take the pill... apri. Which I am horrible at taking =( guess I've been REALLY LUCKY so far!!!  As far as my period goes I must be blessed because it comes when its supposed to, is only here for 3-4 days and I've never had cramps!

ETA: Those who take Mirena... is that something you can only use if you'd had a baby? because I would LOVE to use that!
• I am on ocella, which is the generic for yasmin.  I have been on this one since I was 17 and tried changing one time in college because there was no generic at the time and my insurance didn't cover it and I had my period for 6 weeks straight! I just sucked it up and paid for it after that haha.  I also tried going off of it for a while and my periods were HORRIBLE and ridiculously irregular.  That;s the reason I went on BC to begin with.  It makes me SO nervous for when FI and I are TTC.

<div>I have the mirena too and love it!  I've had it for almost for 3 years with no serious problems.  no weight gain, but i do have a lower sex drive and sometimes FI gets annoyed.  he deals with it though after we conceived the twins less than 2 weeks of not taking the pill (we were on vacation and forgot them at home).  it's lovely to not have to remember to take or change something so frequently.  </div>

• I am on seasonique but I have endometriosis and a lot fo other problems with my period so I skip the placebo pills and don't have a period. It's been almost 4 years (crazy to actually say that) since I had my last period and I love it. I was paranoid for a while a took pregnancy tests but now I'm fine. I wanted to switch to an IUD really bad because birth control really kills my sex drive but because there is no 100% guarantee that it will stop my period, I can't take that risk. Last time I had a period I had a seizure and ended up in the hospital for a day and a half. Not my idea of a fun time so I'm sticking to my pills for now. You have no idea how terrified I am for when we try to conceive but we will weather that bridge then, I guess.

I switch to 3 month cycles and it has completely destroyed my sex drive.  My FI really hates it but he understands how much better the 3 month cycles are (I get really bad cramps).

Anyway, I take pills; Portia.  I am pretty good at remembering each day just not always the same time.  I had very irregular periods before but very minimal cramps.  Now they are worse than ever but my emotions are not on rollar coaster mode anymore.  I used to have horrible mood swings.  So, I'll suffer through the cramps so I don't go from crying to yelling at everyone at any second of the day.

• I am on Sprintec and take it on time everyday, sometimes skip months which is convenient. I havent had any bad side effects so have no complaints. I am however jealous of those of you who only have your period once a year! I think I would be too scared to.

• I'm on the pill right now even though it's completely unnecessary contraceptive wise. My periods are wacko, I won't have it for a couple of months and then I'll have it for WEEKS at a time. It's just easier to be regulated right now. I'm on the generic for Yaz. I go to the doctor for my yearly check up in January and am going to ask him about the patch then. I'm terrible about remembering to take the pill every day.
• I'm on the pill, it's a generic and I honestly don't remember what. :(  I would love to at some point just start charting for TTA and later on TTC.
• I am on Low Ogestral. It has worked great for me, minus the last week or so since missing a pill last Sunday.

• I'm on Lutera as well. After two years it thinned out my lining so much that I don't get my period at all which is great and nerve wracking at the same time. The only issue I have is that I get massive headaches for a few days during the placebo week-it has happened with all 5 brands of pills I have tried-anyone else have that.

I'm seriously considering an IUD next August when the new health care laws go into effect and there is no charge for them.

• I have Mirena for 2 1/2 yrs. I suffered from bad acne the first 6 mths and now still have some. I have light periods irregularly even now. I wanted the 10 yr non-hormonal IUD but my insurance wont cover it :/
• I'm on the pill, it's called Lutera. I take it on a 3 month straight cycle so I only get my period 4 times a year. It works great for me because I have VERY awful cramps when I have my period. My doctor switched me to this about a year ago because I was having issues with cysts and symptoms related with endometriosis.
• I also have an IUD, but the copper version (Paraguard). I was on the pill for a year, switched pills 3 times because the first one was making me depressed, and then I began to get ovarian cysts that were so painful that I once had to go the the hospital and they thought it was appendicitis. I would feel so sick every 2 months for an hour, that my doctor and I decided I needed to get off hormonal birth control.

I like the copper one because it doesn't get rid of my period, but I didn't really have a choice because Mirena is still hormonal.
• We use condoms. I thought about getting on the pill, but FI woud still use condoms, since he doesn't want an "accident". I don't feel like being on all those hormones for nothing.

We use the rhythm method/condoms. I was on the pill for about a year, but I would spot heavily for most weeks during the month and get crampy a lot. My gyn put me on like 5 different kinds, and they all did the same thing. Eventually I got sick of it and gave up, haha.

On a related note: I have orientation for my new job this week. The girl who sat next to me yesterday mentioned this was her second time in orientation. She was hired 3 months ago and started orientation, but after the first couple days she started having severe headaches and couldn't get out of bed for like a week. Eventually she dragged herself to the ER and she had a blood clot in her brain from taking Yaz. She's 23, healthy, and a non-smoker. She was in the hospital for weeks and temporarily lost her vision and everything. Sooo scary!

*blushes*  Yes, I've had pretty low drive since switching to Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo.  It's given me some horrible acne breakouts too, but I'm kinda lazy and don't feel like changing pills yet.  I used to take Yasmin, but had breakthrough bleeding with that.

Yaz gave me horrible migraines, which was sad because it's the only one I've tried so far that was perfect in every other way.

I'm on... I forget. I just started a new brand this month. I play what I call "birth control roulette" because I  have to switch so often trying to find something that treats the absolutely horrible period symptoms I get. Whatever I'm on, not liking it. This is the hardest switch over I've ever had. Acne, bad mental space, etc. It's terrible.
• I'm on Yaz.  I started off on Alesse but when I was in college they only gave me the generic version of it and I started to have lots of breakthrough bleeding (generics aren't identical to name brand and for me the difference was just enough to cause this) so then I was on Yasmin for a few years.  Then I started getting terrible PMS (like crying alone in my room for a whole weekend before period for no reason but not any other day during the month) so my doctor switched me to Yaz which was supposed to be better for that and it's been amazing.  With all the concerns about Yaz though and blood clots I'm thinking of switching.  I have 2 packs of pills left (I get 3 months at a time) and I will call my doctor to try something else after I finish those.  I just worry about my severe PMS coming back...
