Centerpieces

Would it be weird if I just didn't do them? It seems like a waste of money to me.
Thoughts?

Re: Centerpieces

  • I often thought about this as I started my planning process. I didn't want to spend tons of money on flowers that would eventaully die. I am keeping it really simple. Another option is to do something like picture frames, or other objects that aren't flowers. It may be cheaper.

I think centerpieces really help pull together the decorations (depending on location), but honeslty if you don't want to do them...just don't! :) It's your wedding day!

    Good luck.

  • I totally agree with you. We are using centerpieces that our venue offers. It is a bowl with water and a floating flower then tea candles around it. If this wasn't an option I'm not sure what we would do.

But my personal thought is that centerpieces are a detail that most people over look. I don't remember anyone's centerpieces.

  • I've been going back and forth about them. I've decided to DIY and go simple. We are paying completely for the wedding and everything ourselves and my fiance would rather have the extra money for our honeymoon instead of decorations.

I think they are overlooked... but I think it would be noticed by everyone if there were no centerpeices at all.

  • I personally like them, even if it's a little candle, but I don't think it would be weird for you not to have them.
  • We are paying for everything ourselves too. And, if we can cut it out, that would save a good bit. I may still get some votive candles, and I have water beads that could stand alone.
The tables are the 8 person sitting rounds. 90"???
It's all family, so I know they are going to want to talk and visit. I would feel bad blocking people's views of each other.

I definitely agree with this. But it doesn't have to be anything big or extravegant, even it's just a fun way to display your table numbers! It will help "center" the table. And pull the tables together.

I think this would be fine, it's simple but will look nice and has the advantage of being cheap.
  • I guess I just need inspiration. I haven't seen anything I would want to do. >.<

I am not all about centerpieces either. But I think tables look bare without them.

We are doign something liek this:

    <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/8/9/c8f2c57e-1143-4ce0-991a-010a067f34b4.large.bmp" title="Click to view a larger photo" onclick="return gSiteLife.LoadForumPage('ForumImage', 'plckPhotoId', 'c8f2c57e-1143-4ce0-991a-010a067f34b4', 'plckRedirectUrl', gSiteLife.EscapeValue(window.location.href));" class="PhotoLink"><img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/8/9/c8f2c57e-1143-4ce0-991a-010a067f34b4.medium.bmp" alt="" /></a>

But a lot less roses and a couple peonies. We are ordering the flowers from Sam's Club (total of about $120 bucks for all tables) and we are borrowing the vases. But I think on dollartree.com they have some nice ones. Simple, cheap and gorgeous!

Oh and small so you dont block the view of the people sitting across from each other.

    Here is a vase from <a href="http://www.dollartree.com/">www.dollartree.com</a>

  • You have a few months, cruise the wedding classifieds page and see if you can buy someone's used centerpieces for cheap.

It will also give you ideas of some of the DIY centerpieces others have made. A lot of them don't use fresh flowers so they're reusable

  • Do you have some vases already that you own you could do? They don't have to match, just maybe a vase or two on each table with a couple of flowers in it. Maybe some family members have some also you could borrow.

I agree with Chelsea.  I think you can definitely have DIY centerpieces that are way cheaper than using flowers, but I think the table would look "naked" without something there.  I recently went to a wedding where the centerpieces were extremely small and awkward and I definitely noticed.

Yeah, I bought all my vases for like $20. I just don't know what to put in them.
My original thought was to sink a calla or two in some and something else in the others. And, I may still end up doing that. But, I do have those goofy water beads that I *love* I need to figure out what to do with those too. Hmmmmm..... Pintrest. lol
  • I am going to the Dollar Tree and buying fake flowers to put in mason jars. I am getting the mason jars from FMIL. So I am spending very little money on them. I agree with you that centerpieces can be a huge waste of money. But I also agree with Chelsea that if there was nothing people would notice.

We aren't doing elaborate centerpieces. We are putting one pillar candle with a lime ribbon sash on a round mirror with flowers made from accents and petals around it.

ETA: I didn't want anything but my mom kept insisting we did so we met in the middle and came up with the above decorations.

  • Are you giving out favors? Maybe you could incorporate them into the centerpeices so you wouldnt have an extra cost. I was thinking of doing this when I was leaning towards personalized lollipops as favors..they would double as a "lollipop bouquet" centerpiece. Just a thought :)

That is totally cute! But, my aunt is making our favors for free.  I am making little chocolates to go in them. They are little baskets. Maybe I will figure something out with that.
  • I feel like it would look really bare if you didn't have them. There are lots of affordable centerpieces you can do. I wouldn't cut corners there but somewhere else.

  • my sister did something similar with the beads and the led light- it was simple but very pretty.  and votives are an inexpensive addition.  also, not every table has to be the same.  maybe some have tea lights, some have the water beads, some just have frames.  you can do it!!!  if you're not motivated now, come back to it- you still have 6 months
