Resolutions for 2012!

What are your resolutions for 2012?    Any repeats from previous years?  How do you hope to accomplish these goals?

Re: Resolutions for 2012!

  • get most of my credit card debt paid off. This will get easier and more manageable when FI and I move into together after the wedding and I won't have to only rely on myself for paying the rent, cable, heat, etc.

  • Tone up for the wedding. I have lost a total of 75lbs so far, all I need to do now is tone up. I fit in my dress which is a good thing, I just need to get rid of the flab...

  • To spend a year with out going to the hospital. I don't know how I'll do that yet

  • My goal is to crochet blankets and donate them to a women's shelter. I think this would be good for me on so many levels.
  • I don't really set "New Year's resolutions" because I feel that they're so much more likely to get broken than just setting goals for yourself, even if they're really just the same thing - and breaking them causes guilt, which makes me avoid things :)

I do have a goal to get back on my diet and fitness routine.  The university I'm attending offers 5 free sessions with a personal trainer to create a fitnes and nutrition plan, which I hope to take advantage of once I figure out my schedule for the semester, and the company FI now works for will also pay a certain dollar amount toward a gym membership, which we're both hoping to use.  I've noticed a very significant change in my mood balance when I'm eating well, and adding exercise to that makes it all the better, but I'm really bad with sticking to the exercise portion and I dropped the diet for finals week - and then the holidays hit!

  • Mine aren't really "resolutions" but just ways I want to improve.  FI and I agreed to get on the treadmill at least 3x/week for now.  We have been slacking majorly....as in we haven't used it in probably 2 months or so, and even before that we never consistently used it.  Both of us were super lazy yesterday, but we both did it today so we're off to a good start.  We also want to eat a little better so instead of buying chips when grocery shopping today, we bought clementine's and 90 calorie Fiber One bars and brownies.

Another thing I want to do is to stop spending money on things I don't NEED (except Dunkin Donuts coffee).  My friend is having her birthday at the casino this coming weekend and I decided that because I don't have extra money to spend I'm not going to go.  Normally I would and try not to spend much, but I'm being smart this time.  I am struggling with finances right now because my job doesn't pay very well and FI is helping me out so I'm going to be good to not spend on stupid things.
  • -Start running....I ran a marathon in 2007 and would really like to get back into running...this won't start until it gets nicer  out. I am not running during the winter in MN!

    -sell my house

    -finish FI's house

    -pay off car loan

-save up preschool tuition prior to sept.

  • Our big project for this year is to get our backyard in order. Which is a tall order right now. We want to put up a new fence, build a deck/patio, reseed the lawn, and get a good garden going.

We also want to eat out a little less. Towards the end of last year we got lazy and started going out to eat roughly 3 times a week. We want to get back into cooking to save money and be healthier.

  • Sadly, mine are pretty typical.

I plan to lose 30 pounds and seriously tone up prior to the wedding and remain that way by exercising and eating healthy.

I am traditionally a semi-lazy, organized person.  I want to focus more on being motivated to keep things in order instead of letting them pile up before I organize.

I would like to save up as much money as possible and buy a house at some point in 2012.

I also would like to put more of a focus on religion in my life.

  • I don't like to call them resolutions either because for some reason that word sets me up for major failure lol.  I would like to get back in shape at some point, be more self-aware and self-reflective in my work with my clients, and FI and I really hope to buy a home post-wedding.

  • I never make resolutions lol. I've had the goal to pay off my credit card debt for a while anyways. I can't lose weight because my dress already fits perfectly and I don't see the need to lose any just tone up my butt and legs.
  • Here are my goals for 2012:

-pay for entire wedding without going into debt
    -pay off credit cards
-fix up the house, including remodeling the kitchen, bathroom, and making up the extra bedrooms for FI's kids so they all have their own space for when they come over.
-lose a little weight and tone up the muscle I have.
    -eat healthier

  • The usual suspects ;) Lose weight. This is something that I need to do regardless of the wedding. I've gained 10 lbs in the 2.5 years I've been with FI. I'm just not happy with myself. When we started dating I felt great...just really comfortable in my skin. I wasnt "skinny" by any means but I felt awesome. It's even more important to me now...over the last month while moving and starting my new job I've put on an extra 7 lbs on top of the 10 I had slowly gained. I feel awful. :( But, FI and I have made a serious commitment to being better about things. I've been packing my lunch for work, seriously looking at portion control and finding ways to be active despite how busy we are. I've lost 4 of the 7 lbs I've gained so hopefully I can keep it going. Others: pay off some credit card debt, make a conscitious effort to be a better person (less gossip, be more helpful & kind, etc), finish our home improvement projects and apply to grad school (that's a secret but I have to tell SOMEONE) ;)
  • FI and I had fun setting resolutions together. These are mine (his were similar):

    Lose 12lbs by June 22nd

Run 5K in under 30 min

    Get thesis proposal accepted

    Keep better track of expenses

    Tithe 10% of income

Add $2000 to savings by May 1st
