FI and I went to see a house last Monday and then we went to see 6 more yesterday, including our favorite. The house we saw last Monday was nice, it's like a 5 minute drive to my work and it's in a great school district. The only thing holding us back is that it's a 3 bedroom. It's number 2 on our list, though.
As for Sunday, one house was nice but FI thinks it's out in the boonies (it's not that bad but it's a little far out). Another one was really nice (the owners bought it to renovate and flip it), but the backyard is a pool. And the concrete around the pool. It's number 3 on our list.
The others were meh. They were ok, but they didn't compare to number 1. Speaking of which....
Here's a link to our favorite house!
http://www.nothnagle.com/Properties/Details.aspx?MLS=19&M=R171960There is absolutely nothing we need to do to it immediately. It doesn't have central air, but we can have that installed in a few years. The owners have already moved and are desparate to sell it. The seller's agent told us and told our agent to think of what we'd normall ask for it, then subtract any costs that we'd need to upgrade (the AC, primarily). We're hoping, with the AC price included, to get it down to $175-180k. They've been trying to sell it for a while, and there are a couple of reasons why it hasn't sold. It's on a secondary road (but so close to the highway!) and it's on a bit of a hill. But, we can grow into this house and live in it as long as we want, so we're not worries about resale.
We went with our agent yesterday, and she thinks it's a really nice house and doesn't see anything wrong with it. We're taking our parents there Sunday (our third time visiting) so that they can give us their impressions (FI's dad is really good with pointing things out). The owners have really upgraded everything. If they approve of this house, and assuming I get my official offer this week, we'll put in an offer early next week
