NWR: My New Friend, CPAP

Last Summer, I went to the doctor and took a sleep questionairre. I found out then, with my answers I could have been a canidate for sleep apnia. In October, I had to take a sleep study yes, that means I had to sleep in a lab for them to study my sleep pattern. Today, I finally made it to the Doctor to met about my sleep stats. It showed I had very mild sleep apina. Meaning, I loose about 30% of my air at night while I am sleeping. I was given a machine to sleep with at night (CPAP).

So before I am even married, I have this crazy machine, that blows air into my nostrils. What is crazy is, it has a long snout. I look like an elephant going to bed. I told one of my bridesmaid there is nothing sexy about this head gear, she reminded me that we ( FI and Me) are vowing for better or for worse. It put everything back in perspective. With the health challenges that, I have I can tell you it takes a strong special man. I am just glad, I was blessed with one.

Now for a good night sleep.

  • It's good that you have some answers.  And like your BM said, for better or worse. And honestly, I'm sure your FI would rather have you using this machine than worrying about what could happen if you weren't using it.

Good luck with the adjustments..and yes, good for you for finding such a good man :)

  • it's not that bad, to be honest i would get a full face mask. i like it much better. i could not do the nose mask, hearing the nurse in the dark tell me to put the mask back on often was not a fun night lol.

i have mad my mask for 2 years now & it is fine. What is your setting at? Mine is 11, way more than normal for "mild" sleep apnea which was my diagnosis.

It's great that you're doing something to take care of the issue.  Better weird headgear than problems sleeping.

I grind my teeth, so I have to sleep with a night guard.  That's definitely not sexy either.  But it is what it is.

Same here. I have TMJ so my jaw is totally screwed up. If I get too stressed, by jaw kills because I clench my teeth, along with grinding them at night. I actually have to go at some point to get a new mouth guard because my teeth have moved and now it doesn't fit properly.

  • Thanks for all the support.  I needed, I have a major heart condition and I think that was easier than sleeping last night. When I went to the sleep study, I was able to sleep with the in nose mask comfortablly. I believe my setting is at six. The issue was sleeping last night. I could not get my breathing together.

Sweet Canadian please give me some insight. The air is coming in my nostril and it feels like the only way to exhale is to breath out my mouth. HELP!!!!

  • I'm glad they were able to figure it out.  My FFIL has one.  He said it lets him sleep much better, get a full nights sleep, and therefore have more energy throughout the day.
