June 2012 Weddings

Half Marathon

So I decided last night to register for a half marathon!  I am really excited because I have been working out almost every day to get in shape, but really need a more set fitness goal.

I am going to do the Run to Remember in Boston.  The only draw back is it is scheduled for May 29th (2 weeks before the wedding).  I am a little worried that this will be too much stress, but I also think it will give me positive focus.  I am not the type to get too overwhelmed with wedding planning and such.

I mapped out a training routine and will officially start next week.  This week I am continuing with my standard workouts.

  • Awesome! I did a 10K on Thanksgiving and really enjoyed getting ready for that and actually running it. FI and I are discussing doing a half marathon (after wedding for us)...how did you go about planning your training routine?

I looked up a bunch of different routines and articles online and found the one that fit best into my schedule.  I wanted to keep up some of the classes and strength training I am doing right now, so I will only be focusing on running 3 days a week.

The program is actually meant to be 12 weeks, but I will probably just do the second half twice.

  • Congrats! I did a half-marathon a few years ago and it was a great experience. My training program was 18 weeks so it's good you are taking a longer amount of time. And it's defnitely a good idea to keep doing to your classes and strength training-it will help prevent injuries. And the best part is that all the training means you get to eat so much food and you don't gain any weight. Good luck!

  • Yay!  If you're interested, Runner's World has a free mobile app called Smartcoach.  You plug in some information about yourself and it creates a great workout plan for you.

I am running a half in March and so I'm about 14 weeks out.  It's given me a plan all the way up to the day of!  Good luck :)

I downloaded the app.  It is definitely really cool!  It has my times starting off a little slower than I expected, but that is fine!

  • Congrats! I think it will be a postive stress reducer in the weeks leading up to the wedding. I agree with the PP's. As long as you keep up with your training, it shouldn't be stressful.
