White tux vs Black tux? (kinda long)

So, why did no one warn me how frustrating it can be to just pick out a darn tux?? lol smh Today, FI & his best man went to finally select their tuxes and he insisted that I tag-along (which I didn't mind initially because I wanted my input expressed). We went into Mens Warehouse and things were going well until it was time to explain our vision: white tux for groom, black tux for groomsmen. Our consultant didn't really think that flowed but was willing to give us whatever we wanted. So of course, those words sparked doubt in my mind and I suggested some alternatives, like him in a black tux. FI did not want to budge on his white tux desires and we even had to step out to do some heavy duty "talking" (no worries, we're still a happy couple headed to the alter). Anyway, we left the shop and decided to just go home, get some more opinions, and think some more about it. After spending some time looking at pics & comments on Google, I was still unsure until I came on here and went back to snh3200's wedding recap. I noticed her groom was dressed in all white while his groomsmen were in black. I showed my FI and he excitedly exclaimed that that was his vision all along. I'm feeling more better about it but I guess I'm like any other bride, just worried and nervous about all the details. Ladies, any opinions or experiences with a white tux vs a black tux? Thanks in advance.

  • Welcome to the "specialness" of men having to choose their attire. I was very surprised at how complex of an issue this was. But I guess they are allowed to be picky, it's their special day also.

As for your question, I am actually not a fan of the white tux, so I think it's really a personal choice. If that's what FI wants to wear then let him have this one thing. I think deep down FI wanted to wear a white tux but I always expressed to him that I don't like it. As soon as he found something that he looked "fly" in, that wasn't a white tux, it wasn't even an issue. I think it does make for nice pictures when just the bride and groom are taking pics. As you mentioned, it has been done before and looks great. So no worries about flow, I think it's all about preference.

I guess we were on the same agenda this weekend because FI and I went to pick out tux. I don't know why they are soooo adamant about these freaking tux! We wen't to two stores, FI was adamnt about actually buying a tux vs. renting one. I told him that he would spend more money buying than renting. Than that turned into this whole thing about what if I need to wear a tux again, etc. I'm like where else are you going to wear a tux? *crickets*.....Exactly! No freakin where. So I got my way, lol, and we are going with Men's Wearhouse like I said. The tux will definitely be black even though FI kept saying what about gray. I'm like its too late to be voicing your opinion about colors when I have chosen the colors months ago. So black tux for all the guys it is. Now we have to get all of them together to be fitted. Ugh thats gonna be crazy!

  • My FI is going to pick the tux that I "hate". I already know that and he is so contrary I can "feel" it coming up in ma' bones...so that being said all the tuxs that I really love I'm going to tell him I can't stand...

The ONLY thing we've agreed on is the color (black). I know if I say "honey, buy a tux" he will say "no I think I'll RENT one" and etc, etc, etc.

    Disaster...
  • That recap of SNH Wedding shows that the white tux and the black tuxes together can look good. And remember it's his day too, and if this is what's going to make him happy, let him express himself!!
  • I don't know what I'd do without you ladies lol. Thanks for all your helpful opinions & advice. We're now decided on FI in white tux, groomsmen in black. We're planning to go back to the shop more grounded on our wants & desires versus what others want. I do feel better knowin that there are other grooms who will be in white as well. Now on to my next "crisis": deciding whether to endure or just drop an uncooperative & MIA bridesmaid and groomsman we have. Why can't weddings be more simple? Yes, her recap pics were gorgeous & actually helped us come to our conclusion of just going with the white tux. And you are so right, I may be doing the majority of the planning but it isn't just my day, it's our day. If he wanted to strut out in a polka dot tux (God forbid) then I should let him because as his future wife, I need to concentrate on pleasing him & not others. Plus, the color or style of the clothes do not change the purpose of the day: marrying the love of my life.

Lmbo @ the crickets! I had to set FI straight on the buying & renting thing too smh He thought since I bought my dress, he should be able to buy his tux. Once I explained that I would've rented my dress too if I could & he saw the price of buying his tux, he swiftly changed his mind. Men are funny at times but we still love em
