Maybe a silly question? Gift Card Box (PIP)

So, I was thinking about buying a gift card box or bird cage or something for people to put cards in, but none look close to the theme and it seems like a simple DIY project. I was looking at a couple of pics, and my silly question is this, why are there two or three boxes stacked? Is this just for the look, or is there somehow another usage of the other boxes...  I was thinking that maybe they cut out the portion of the box below the others...?

Well I think its the look and the cutting out but also remember that volume plays a role... if everyone brings a card it wouldnt be likely to all fit in the one box

This is the one I bought and it said it holds 110 cards. I got it already and think it's big enough. I figure I am expecting about 100 guests, most are couples, so if everyone brings a card it will be about 75.

they're usually layered boxes because the cards dimensions vary.  some people bring you big cards and some bring small. if you have a regular card with like a shoe box dimension, it'd be hard to just plop the card in. the depth definitely helps. If you only want 1 box find one that's pretty deep so people won't have to bend and fold cards just to get it in.

I made mine with 3 boxes. I had the hole in the bottom box. There are pix in my blog, which I think is still in my siggy.
