African American Weddings

38 days and counting

Hi Ladies, how are you doing? Missed you guys, I have been mia lately. Trying to get my House In Order!!! Well still looking for a job and trying to figure out what to do with my life. But Nonetheless, I have been for the first time in years, been able to enjoy a summer. So it is not so bad.On to the wedding agenda..it has been truly eventful, to say the least. Wedding brings the ugly out of alot of people, so I truly know who is really in my corner and who is not. But I can not wait till the day comes, we have gotten alot done. And now all I have is the very small details to complete. I have had a wonderful bachlorette party and bridal shower. Even though FI's family do not show up, none of them. The bridesmaids dresses finally came in the other day, which we order 6 months ago. Mind you the wedding is in 39 days. WTF is that about, I do not know. And we go home next weekend to get our marriage license and meet with the pastor, my 2nd to the last dress fitting and go to a close friend of ours wedding. I swear the closer it gets the more I feel stress. So to all those future brides to be out there, don't sweat the small stuff, as far as the details. I lost my job and thought that it was not possible to have the wedding. But I had to realize that it was not about the details, or if we could have our wedding bands and what not. It is about the fact that I am marrying my true love. And at the end of the day, that is all that matters. We have manage to pull this off, and I cut the wedding down to the bare. Letting go of all the extra stuff and said I do not need it. No one is going to remember everything that was missing but you. If I could turn back and start over I would have had a destination wedding. But I just want to say, have fun with it and do not let the wedding consume, what is imporant the MARRIAGE!!! love you guys!!!And i did not forget about the national AAW Knottie GTG after the wedding I will be on it full time.

Girl his family is showing their azzes big time huh? Not showing up to any of your wedding related functions! I'd fix em...they wouldn't be showing up to eat and drink at my reception either! But that's just me...nasty old cat that i am! I'm glad to see your spirits are high and you're moving on with the wedding. It's such a great feeling to be recognized as husband and wife in the eyes of God. There's no greater bond! Congratulations to both of you for finding your way through the hardships.

Sorry to hear about his side of the family.... But on a more positive note, you are really giving me inspiration. I work. He works but he was laid off for nearly a year until Jan of this yr.  He ended up taking a job out of state. So we are really trying to pull things together. But as you said, it's not the wedding that's as important as it is that he and I will be married. He always says no matter what, we are already one! Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad it's all working out. And thanks for the reminder that what is really important is marrying your bff. I really needed that. I'm with you if I could do it all again we would be on an island with just our immediate family.
