Addressing STD's

I know I could have asked on another post but I'd much rather ask you guys. How did you address your STD's? Like, if it was a husband and wife, do you say "Mr. & Mrs. Jim Smith" or "Mr. Jim & Mrs. Barbara Smith"?If they had kids, "Mr. & Mrs. Jim Smith and Family" or would you spell out all kid's names or leave that part out all together? What if they had adult kids who lived with them? If they didn't live with them, did you send their STD to their parent's home to save on postage?I'm trying to get this done by the end of this week but just checking on etiquette.

I didn't do any STDs, but I'm assuming they are addressed like invites. In that case it would be Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith. Minor children's names would be written below the parents. Adults get their own whether or not they live with parents. If you've got titles it would be Judge and Mrs. Jim Smith. Couples who aren't married are Jim Smith and Jane Doe. Mr / Mrs if going formal with it.

Thanks Cat for your response! But to be a little more specific, I should've mentioned I needed to know how to label addresses on the front of an envelope, not necessarily inside. The STD's are already made and will just be put in the envelope. Sorry about the miscommunication.

I did Mr and Mrs John Doe.  If they had grown kids living with them I put Mr and Mrs John Doe and Family.  If they don't live with them I sent them a separate STD

Our STDs were more informal. I wrote out "Jim and Barbara Smith". If they had an older child (18+) living with them it was:Jim and Barbara SmithJohnny SmithIf it was the whole family:The Smith FamilyHowever, our invites will be more formal.

Thanks ladies for your input. I won't make them so formal this time around.

I researched etiquette for a while but never found a true rule so I just decided to put Barack and Michele Obama. Had I wanted the kiddies there, it was The Obama Family!
