Welcome and congratulations! What is helping me through my wedding planning is having a notebook and filling it with any ideas I have. Also the ladies on this board are so nice so don't be shy with your questions!

We're not nice aqua bwahahah *evil laugh* lol J/K.. Welcome ditto aqua, also decide on what ur budget will be. Where do u want your wedding at home vs destination wedding and your guestlist. Most importantly do NOT go broke over your wedding. Oh oh oh this is advice that no one tells u until its to late, but be prepared be very prepared and know that your wedding plans will not always b as important/ a priority to anyone else as it is to you, knowing this will save u a lot of teary nights

Welcome! Stay focused on planning a day that you and FI want. Don't worry about what everyone else wants you to have. There will be folks closest to you that will try and make your wedding be all about them.HTHCicy

Welcome! Only after you set a budget, start looking at everyone else's bios and ideas. Don't look before because you might want everything you see. Remember, the biggest driver of your budget is the number of guest. Remember, this day should only happens once in a lifetime, but you don't have to spend paying for your life. Set up a plan to budget your money so that you can attempt to save (i know funny in this economy) if you don't have your parents paying for it all!

Welcome! No need to be shy no this board. My advice is for the bride that is on a budget, so don't think I'm cheap, just know my fiance and I are paying for our own wedding :)FIRST, pick up the book Bridal Bargains. It's saved me $1,000s (literally!) on my "dream" wedding.SECOND, If a vendor has what you want but isn't willing to budge on the price, walk away and use that as ammo for the next vendor. It's a buyer's market for all things "wedding," so take advantage this year. Also, when looking for vendors, ask around. Don't just rely on a website, commerical, or their display at a bridal show. Your local Knot board is a good place to start. And if you meet with a vendor and don't feel comfortable, then walk away. You'll have enough to deal with, without the stress of having to go meet with an arrogant or "stank-faced" (yes, I said it, I'm from FL!! lol) cake baker or florist.Last thing--If you have a Michael's craft store or JoAnne Fabrics near you... when you get ready to shop for odds-and-ends or DIY supplies, register on Michael's web site and they'll send you a 50% off coupon (good for two weeks) print a bunch of them and grab a friend ;) JoAnne and Michael's also accept each other's coupons. This has already saved me a bunch of $$$.Happy planning.

Wow!  I just received some great advice myself.  I will have to check out the Brida Bargains book and sign up for coupons at Michael's.  Welcome to the board and thanks for this post!  I agree with pp and I would also add check out Budget Weddings board for advice.  You may also want to check with your local boards for advice on local vendors.  Make sure that every conversation that you have with your vendors is in writing.  Even if it means that after your conversation with the vendor you send an e-mail confirming what is discussed. Be sure that your contract doesn't state anything like this is the final expression of the terms of agreement.  There may be other things that you discuss that can be used to clarify certain details of your agreement.  Make sure that you are completely clear on the terms in the contract.  If possible, ask a wedding planner and an attorney to review the contract.  They will look at it from different perspectives and both perspectives are important.

welcome and congrats on your recent engagement...I haven't read the other ladies response to you but what I can tell you is that planning a wedding is EXCITING, FUN, OVERWHELMING and STRESSFUL but worth it because in the end you marry the love of your life but remember no one is gonna be as excited about your wedding more than you so keep that in mind whenever you are discussing your plans with friends & family...GL and Happy Planning!!

Hey Lady!!  Welcome to the board, you will love it here. The pp's above gave awesome advice.  My only advice is to remember that if everything doesn't go your way on your day, keep in mind that you have a lifetime to make wonderful moments with the man you love! Happy Planning =)
