Hotel room rates...I'm not having my guests paying that! mini vent

I swear, if it's not one thing, it's another. So I had my FI go and set up a room block at the hotel where we are having our reception. So we see the price sheet. Tell me why they are charging $168 for a King/Double room? HUH? The Queen room is $148. I'm like "um...kay, this is not going to happen". That's with the "discount". I will go see if I can negotiate a lower price, but if they won't budge, then I will have to get a room block at another hotel which is not ideal.I'm at the point of scrapping the whole thing and starting over. It's just pure craziness. It's like I take two steps forward and three steps back. I will most likely be getting a planner some time in the near future taking the advice from you all. My FI is starting grad school now and I really don't have that much help in planning except for him so now I'm kinda on my own. I just need to keep telling myself that everything will be great and work out. I do have some good news though. All my bridesmaids put the deposits on thier dress and we found a church that will cost us around $250. YAY.

Sad to say that's kinda like the going rate, or not much less. See if you can enroll in any rewards programs. I know Holiday Inn has the Priority Club and the rooms are like 10% less.

Agreed w/ Cat... My hotel blocked their rooms at their special rate of $150 + tax for Saturday night. My thing that a) it was a Saturday which is always going to be the most expensive day AND b) I'm getting married over a holiday weekend, so they expect people to fill up their rooms regardless. The going rate for next weekend is $215, so I think I did ok.

wow...that's just alot of money. I think I'm going to give my guests other hotel options because I personally wouldn't pay that amount. I feel if I won't pay that, I can't expect my guests to pay that either. Now, if they want to pay, I'm okay with it, but I know if the shoe was on the other foot, I would go elsewhere.

It definitely makes sense to give them options... I say if you can find another hotel at a better rate or even negotiate with this particular hotel, GO FOR IT!! It never hurts to try!

wow, that is a lot...well at lest for our area. Ours is going to be $109 for a Saturday night. I'd definitely try and negotiate with the hotel or do room blocks at a hotel with a lower price as well.

I would say that is expensive too! I am having the Sheraton as my hotel and it is $89 per night group rate regardless of single king or double queens. We are located less than 15 minutes from the DC boarder. You know everything is more expensive when you say the nation's capital. The hotel is not hosting my wedding and thye do know that I am getting married. The rooms are great because they just remodeled like in last few years. I would look into another option. Are they giving you a discount on your room or suite? We got half off our suites.

I don't know if you can do this but see if you can try to set up a room block online instead of going directly through the hotel (you know hotels.com, expedia.com, etc.).

We did 2 hotels blocks one at The Hilton and another one Holidiay Inn Express. Both hotels discounted the  rooms for us. THe Hilton is 119 per night and the HIE 59 per night so leave it they won't offer a better rate. I also go a 3-bedroom bridal suite for 200 per night and the newlywed suite for 200 per night as well and our reception is across the street at a convention center. Most hotels normaly offer the newlywed suite free when you book your reception with them. Agua I highly suggest getting a planner b/c they are trying to get over on you.
