OMG! Your day is so close... I see that we have things in common: Both of our FI's are a year younger than us, we have  pretty much the same wedding colors, and like you, FI and are high school sweethearts and at first he was kind of short for me, but now he's Waay taller!
Anyways, sometimes when I tell people FI's (23) and my age (24) (Our bday's are today as a matter of fact) they automatically say that we are too young to be getting married, and it's like I have to defend my engagement. Do you go through this, and if so, What is your reaction, and/or response?

Hi There....is the reason you didnt op for a DW is because you wanted your family there? I thought of doing a DW but my family would have killed me.  Also, CONGRATS on your upcoming Marriage.  I look forward to hearing your recap!

Hey hunny! Happy BIRTHDAY! I go through this a LOT (This is a reason why FI's family is not supportive of our  marriage -- his mom married his dad at 20 and they were divorced by 22), she has gotten everyone to be against us and feels as though we have a lot more "living" to do before we can commit ourselves to each other. 1) I always say, "I love him, he loves me. We are there for each other, we are making it on our own, we both have bright futures are I know there is no other person in this world I would rather be with... this is not a mistake, God placed us at certain places in each other's lives at the same time for a reason. Our age shouldn't matter" Hell, my friend got married when we were 18 and her and her husband are probably the happiest married couple I know.. even more than these people who waited years to get married and are "older" and more "established" than they are! People will always try to bring you down and tell you that you don't know any better when you are as young as we are...only thing we can do is prove them wrong. That's what FI & I plan to do :)

Exactly this, FI and I even went to the resort in Mexico for a weekend and fell completely in love. My family was on board.. at first, but later retracted because my uncle lost his job and I just couldn't see my wedding going on with my aunt, uncle and cousins (they are probably my closest family members next to my grandmother). So, I cancelled .. NOW.. I am really regretting it because I feel I took away from something both FI and I loved, invested in and wanted and opted for this HUGE wedding back home that no one (but grandmother) is helping to pay for! We are both really regretting it, on the brighter side... everrryoonnne will be there!! We are thinking of renewing our vows in the future in Mexico :)

Hello Brittany, so nice to meet you!  We have alot in common as well.  I got my Bachelor's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice and I worked for a residential treatment facility called Youth Villages when I graduated.  Needless to say, that was not the job for me, but I did want to continue working with the youth.  You have a very special gift to work in that environment.

Do you have a large or small bridal party?  How long are you gonna wait before starting a family?

So how are you feeling so close to your wedding day?

Where in Jamaica are you honeymooning?  February is a great time to go.  My Mom's side is from Jamaica and I have been there several times.  I love it!!!

What do you love most about your venue?

P.S.  I love Pnina Tornai gowns.  Just don't love the price tag that comes with it.  LOL!

    Love is the ultimate superpower.
It can make you weak and strong simultaneously.

    Hi Brittany,

Thank you for sharing with us.  Don't worry about people who think you are too young to get married. You appear to be extremely mature and as you said, age does not define the success of a marriage.  Even if you were older, people would have questions about that.  They would want to know why did you wait so long?  Are you going to have kids at your age?  What are you going to do if you end up not having kids?  And so on and so forth.....

I am so happy for you and hope that you enjoy your special day.

Until the first full year of being one! Anniversary

My BP is very small! 2 MOHs and 1 BM! 4 Groomsmen! We are planning on waiting about 3-4 years before we start with the little ones ;)

& WOW.. We really do have a lot in common, I love working with the kiddies.. it's stressful at time but gives me such joy to see the smiles on their faces when they know I'm coming into work or when I've helped them see the good in a bad situation.. I really believe this is my calling!

I am feeling so cool, my family is worried that FI & I are too cool for it to be so close to our wedding day :p

We are planning on Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay, I went to the Secrets in Riviera Maya and absolutely fell in LOVE!

I love my venue because it is absolutely beautiful and everything I could imagine with a small price tag! I felt it was in my budget and everything I could ever want.. plus.. THE FOOD IS ACTUALLY GOOD! I LOVE FOOD! Yummy :)

I love Pnina too.. but me & Pnina will never touch each other, not with those $10,000 and up gowns! lol! Nice to look at though :)

& thanks to the two other lovely ladies who commented :

I really don't worry too much (as much as I used to) about what other people say about me getting married young because none of what they say have anything to do with FI  & myself. My grandmother always says, "If it don't apply, let it FLY baby!" and that's exactly what I've been starting to do :)

Hopefully his family does come around, FI is planning to talk to them tomorrow about whether they plan to RSVP.. we have our fingers crossed! They will definitely regret it, it will be a beautiful day and they have been more than welcome to all our events leading up to the big day (they have not shown up to any) , but I'm praying that they come through for him just this once! It would mean so much for both of us!

Brittany thank you for sharing your story with us. You have such a sweet personality that comes through in your posts. I do indeed hope FI's family comes around to support you.

I see you guys are from Chi-town, I was born there but raised in the south. I've always toyed with returning to live. Do you think you and FI will stay or relocate somewhere else?
