What's Unique about your wedding?

I didn't want an average wedding so I was trying so hard to make our ceremony unique. I came up with, writing our own vows, the way that the bridal party walks down together and a solo while we light the unity candle. Not that unique but not the average either. What about you ladies?

    - getting married at a contemporary art museum
    - cocktail hour in an interactive kids museum
    - wrote our own vows and put together our own wedding ceremony
    - FI's step show/serenade for me during the reception (he's an Alpha)
    - the way we're having our reception music played (by decade, starting with the 60s)
    - our reception food (seasoned very well, sometimes spicy - blackened chicken, teryaki salmon, orange maple glazed sweet potatoes, etc.)
    - song I'm walking down the aisle to (not traditional wedding march)
    - my mom is walking me down the aisle
    - BMs are wearing shorter dresses
    - I am entering the wedding ceremony by descending down a long staircase
    - our cake flavors (pumpkin spice, tiramisu, amaretto)

I don't know how "unique" any of those are, but I suppose they're different from ultra-traditional weddings.

I am adding a few surprises... MY FI does not dance and all of my friends know that.  WE are doing a special dance that no one knows about. At the end, the BP will have paddles with numbers already on it.  They will act like dancind with the stars and rate us.  They think they will be rating us based on his non-dancing.  His BM will have a low score and will have to explain why. Should be very funny...
Also, I am saying part of my vows in spanish. No one has ever heard me speak spanish.  Funny Thing, one of my Bridal Shower guest gave me a card in spanish as a joke. So I played on that... Girls, you know I dont speak or spanish...we all laughed.. HA!  I will have the last laguh on that one.
For those who dont know, I am half black, and half puerto rican.

Love your list A&M, I'm going to ask our venue manager about the circle seating for the ceremony b/c I remember I wanted that a long time ago and forgot about it!

Also, I love your viennese hour and late night snack...wish we could do that.  :(

We are doing donation cards too - forgot about that on my list.

And finally, where did you get the 3 strand cord?  We may need to integrate that b/c one of our readers is reading Ecclesiastes that talks about the 3-strand cord!

We're not date twins but we sure are style twins I swear.

I purchased the cord of 3 strands from www.godsknot.com it was really important for us to do something that was unique and really symbolized GOD in our marriage! It came in a few weeks back and I love it! It also comes with a few readings as well. My aisle runner might have the bible verse from Ecclesiastes on it b/c i'm in love with it so much.

GIRL the late night snack I'm still trying to finnagle that into everything. It might be something as simple as mini milkshakes and cookies. Something simple.

OH and I forgot I am buying cake bags with a custom sticker on it and each guest will get their cake to go! With so many desserts i do not want my cake to be wasted AT ALL. Our cake comes with our venue and we're fortunate that it comes from a REALLY amazing bakery in north nj so it can't be wasted!

My dad is a retired Marine so he is wearing his dress blues and walking me down the aisle.....Also for the father/daughter dance it will start out with Beyonce Daddy song and change to a James Brown song (haven't decided yet) since everyone know he love James Brown so we can really get down. Also during our ceremony we will be doing "Tasting the 4 Elements" instead of Jumping the broom.

    - Having uplights
    - I'm thinking of having the photog take pictures of each guest at the wedding and we will create a guest photobook - that way we have pictures of everyone who was at our wedding
    - Instead of doing the traditional bouquet toss, I'm thinking of just having a married couples dance and present the bouquet to the couple who has been married the longest (since most of the guests are in serious relationships or married). I think I saw this on a Four Weddings episode
    - Cookie buffet

We are going to incorporate things from New Orleans since my fiance is a native of the city. We will have second line umbrellas and enter in on "Do what you wanna" at the reception venue. I am having his grooms cake made into a fleur de lis symbol. I'm thinking of possibly doing the cake pulls. We will have a second line at the reception and new orleans style food (jambalaya, cajun turkey, etc) .

@mrswac58 my officiant is my brother -n-law. He had heard of it so I sent him the site with information and he is trying to get his wording together for it. I'm also trying to get some wording together to put in our wedding program so our guest will know also. Just talking to some of my friends alot of them don't know about it. What are you using to put the 4 elements in?

Not sure if its unique, but its unheard of in mine & FI's family:

    - Having the wedding at a mansion
    - Ceremony seating is circular
    - I'm wearing blue shoes (yes...my mom fussed a little..lol)
    - No full bar (just champagne, wine, & beer)- YES....this is not what is expected.

Oh ok. I'm still researching it and have only seen the explination on the knot. It just fits my FI and I so much. I dont know anyone who knows what it is, at least i dont think i do. I did have an idea that maybe we could use those dip holders. If i imagine them correctly, they have four little bowls attached. That way you can use them at home after the wedding.  Then I would include 3 taste of each element so the officiant can display one as well. Ill look for them right now and PM you if i find them.

Wow - these are some great unique ideas.  I've learned a few new things.

    I am:
-having my children (ages 12 & 14 by then) walk me down the aisle since my dad passed 5 yrs ago
-having a panoramic group shot taken of all the guests and wedding party near a waterfall fixture
    -having the unity cross ceremony
-hoping to get the groom's cake to look like Lambeau Field or something GB Packers related
-planning on having an ice cream/sundae bar
-guests will pronounce us husband and wife as a community (stealing this from a four weddings episode)

@lisa4766 - I'm half PR and half Black too! I feel you on the Spanish but I don't think I can pull it off.

To all the ladies doing the circular seating - LOVE this idea - can't wait to see the pictures because I think this always looks great!
