Oh wow... the one day that I was away from the computer it's my turn!!!

    1. First Name & Fiance's First Name  Michele & Kenny

    2. Your Birthday & Age and Fiance's Birthday and Age 11/27 - I'm 44 and 12/17 - he's 47 (my second marriage, his first)

    3. City Born In? Los Angeles

    4. City Live in? Los Angeles

    5. Where did you go to college? Well... I went to MANY, but ultimately I graduated from USC

    6. What was your major? Accounting

    7. What is your current job? I just started my own home-based bookkeeping business. I quit my job as Finance Director for a software company after 8 years because it was SUPER stressful, and I'm betting on me now.

    8. What is your dream job? I dream of working in an environment where I'm helping people. I'd like to return to school next fall and pursue a Master's Degree in either Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy

    9. How did you and your fiance meet? Well... about 20+ years ago, we met in a club and went out ONE TIME. Then... through the miracle of Facebook, we re-met three years ago and started dating.

    10.  When did you get engaged and how did he do it?? March 5, 2010. We went to see Lalah Hathaway, and he talked to her mother beforehand and got Lalah to work it into the show. I was SO surprised. I was actually thinking "what if?" before, but I never thought in a million years that he would be able to pull something off like that. The other sad part of this is that my mom died five days later (March 10th). I am glad to have been able to share my joy with her before that.

    11. When is the Wedding Day? July 21. It's coming up SOOOO quickly.

    12. Where is the ceremony and reception? Both in an area near L.A. called San Pedro (where the ship ports are in L.A.) The ceremony is at a public park that overlooks the ocean called Angels Gate Park. We were really happy to find something affordable with this view. The reception is at a venue that used to be an Italian restaurant but is now just used for events called Michael's Tuscany Room.

    13. What are your wedding colors? Eggplant, Sunset Orange, and Sunflower Yellow (ok, purple, orange and yellow)

    14. Where are you honeymooning? Can you believe it's not yet booked? We're planning on an Alaskan cruise. I'm kinda scared of the cold, but I figure it won't get any warmer than July/August, so if I'll ever go, now's the time.

    15. Favorite wedding vendor so far? I have to pick three... I love my NEW coordinator, the photographer is AWESOME, and the ceremony venue coordinator is a doll. The party rental guy (for the chairs) and the chuppah rental lady are also really great.

    16. Biggest wedding splurge? Damn... the whole thing. We're spending more than I thought I would. The videographer was definitely not planned, so I guess this is our "splurge."

    17. What is something you wish you could have at the wedding but don't? If we had the $$, maybe we'd have picked more upscale venues that were more inclusive -- ceremony and reception at the same place with beautiful scenery all around.

    18. Another knottie wedding you'd like to attend? All of them!! Definitely Benita b/c she makes me laugh... MissOwens, but I think she'd kick me out 'cause I wanna bring a guest (j/k). Esha's wedding I know must have been nice... MsAmeera too had some real beauty goin' on.

    19. Favorite book? This is hard. I read different kinds of stuff. The first book that came to mind was "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell, but I am always buried in the latest parenting book.

    20. Favorite movie? No movie ever made me cry like "The Joy Luck Club." I like weird stuff... like Fight Club LOL. I'm sure that others would come up, but these are just the first that I thought of.

    21. Favorite tv show? Maybe Chopped (on the Food Network).

    22. Favorite wedding dress designer? I'll have to go with La Sposa (just because my dress is one).

    23. Any advice you can give? Wedding advice? Number your RSVP cards! Try to enjoy the ride as you plan and remember that this one day is the start of a new adventure.  Other advice - follow the golden rule!!

    24. Anything you wish you could change about your wedding? I wish I had gone with a different coordinator from the beginning. I had reservations, but went with testimonials, but my gut was against her. I really wanted to be done with more stuff by now, but I guess I just have to buckle down and get to it.

    25. Share something about yourself!  Um... I won $100 in a Cabbage Patch contest back in the day? I was a backup dancer for a washed up rapper (he was washed up at the time), and we did one show that was on the Apollo (let me know if you want the YouTube link! :)
  • Nice meeting you Michele! I want to know more about your brief career as a back up dancer! And yes youtube link please! How did that come about? Do you have a background in dance? Did you already know him?

I think reconnections are AMAZING. You have to wonder if destiny/fate is actually a living breathing entity that has laid out a plan for your path and re directs you if you stray.

Social Work is a great field to get into. I have been in the field for 17 years and it is very rewarding. Kudos to you for leaving your job to start your own business. That takes lots of guts to do!

Now 1st FI did an awesome job on the proposal! That was lovely you were able to share it with your mom...I am sorry for your loss.

2nd..your wedding and honeymoon sound like they are both going to be all that you ever wanted!!

3rd.. I love the Joyluck Club too.Its amazing what Asian women went through and go through I bawled when she let her baby slip under the water while she was bathing him. She was sooo unhappy and disconnected with life she didnt want the baby to be the same way.

4th You knew good and well we would want the LINK to the video...I love Apollo!

  • Oh and football wife is a certified, ZIP ZAP fool!!!!! That was for you sultry!!! LMAO!!!!
    Wedding Countdown Ticker Simply Fabulous!
  • Oh gosh... where do I start...? first of all, here's the link. This was for a show called "Rapmania" and it was for the 15th anniversary of rap. It was taped at both The Apollo in NY and at a club at The Palace in Hollywood. We were in Hollywood. I'm the one in the middle.

I was probably no older than 22 when this video was done... After I posted all of that, I was thinking that I should have just said that I speak Spanish.

@ staten - now you know we have a strict limit on invites!!! What a coincidence about our birthdays! But I was in typo hell last night... FI's bday is 12/17... oh well.

@nicknutt - We picked the day for a variety of reasons... my son goes to visit his dad for 1/2 of every summer and he will be here for the first half... it's also close to our 3 year anniversary. It was also a Saturday that was available at our affordable venue!

Yes... his proposal was all that! There was a brief video of it on youtube (Lalah's drummer had posted some highlights from her shows), but it disappeared... we had been showing it to everyone, and then one day it was just gone. FI got some MAJOR points for that! It's a great memory to lean on. Plus, he was SOOOO nervous before the concert, and I was completely clueless as to why... I thought it was claustrophobia LOL....

Casey - yes... The Joy Luck Club... I guess the other thing is that my mom is (was) Japanese... and I saw some of her in those ladies (even though they were Chinese)...

Sultry - where are you getting married? No way to make a chuppah work? They're sooo cute (but kinda pricey). Um... I can put together a video of me doing the cabbage patch now... but only after I make a touchdown (????) LOL.

Mrs. Boss - no real story to the backup dancer thing... My friends knew the guy from somewhere and we danced backup at a club from time to time... he was this REALLY old school rapper even then (and that was early 90s). That was about it. Other than taking ballet, tap and jazz when I was like 7 years old, I don't have a "dance background" per se.

MissusD - I am glad to crack you up! Don't laugh TOO hard at the video.

Benita - no words. :) Yes, it's gutsy to start my own business. My friend asked me to borrow some $ the other day and I was like, "I don't think so. I've only earned like $700 since I started." Trying to do this and plan a wedding is REALLY tough, but I still have some big faith in God and belief that I can market my talents in this area. Thanks also for the encouragement in the Social Work arena. It seems very rewarding to make a difference in someone's life.

All knotties - I so enjoy interacting with you on this board and am so glad I've found you all here. I look forward to coming and sharing war stories and recaps and bouncing off ideas and venting!!! :)

    Hugggssss!!!

  • I just watched the video and I am..........**DEAD**!!!!!!! Bwaaahahahaha !!!!! FI is a MAJOR hip hop head and was like "grandmaster caz and the furious 5!" I'm like "who?"...."ummmm? Yeah honey, that's right."

  • Youtube is blocked at my job but I can't wait to get home and see your link. I'm sure you were ole' school FABULOUS! LOL!

Glad to learn more about you! Looks like we are both getting married in July. Are you more nervous or excited??

    Wedding date July 7, 2012
  • OMG I JUST WATCHED THE VIDEO...NO MAKE UP ANYMORE!! Get it girl!! OMG  I needed that laugh this morning!! Thanks for shairng!
  • So I"m at work right.....and I tried watching it on my phone....as SOON as dude turned around and started rapping I BURST out laughing! PUMP IT UP!!

You did your thang though girl! I would love to tell people I was a backup dancer.

  • Y'all make me laugh. FI shows that to people ALL.THE.TIME. It could be embarrasing, but it's a part of my past that I REALLY enjoyed :)

MissusD - I think that FI is thinking of Grandmaster FLASH and the Furious 5. I'm telling  you... Grandmaster Caz was from around that same era. He was like one of those NY rappers before rap became commercial. From what I understand, he's a hip hop tour guide in NY now and part of his claim to fame is that the Sugar Hill Gang stole some of his lyrics. He was mad cool... and I'd actually like to make it out there to go on one of the tours...

Casey - No make up? Was I way overdone??

Mrs. Boss... I'm glad you got a good laugh.  I do EVERY TIME I watch it.

One of the other girls in the video is in the WP

Carla -- I'm not yet nervous... only about getting all of the stuff done before the day comes. I'm excited and was actually thinking about asking my 10 year old son to walk me down the aisle this morning and my eyes teared up... How are you feeling? Yours is REALLY soon! Are you done with mostly everything?
  • Chele I just watched the video. LMAO!!! girl you was gettin it! That took me back to the good old days. Damn that was a good one.

  • That's why I love y'all :)
  • Hi Michele - Nice to know more about you.

    Your wedding colors sound lovely.

I am an Accounting major as well.  Too bad.  LOL!

Loved your dancing.  You put your all into that one girl.  :)

Everyone that I know who has done an Alaskan cruise has loved it.  They say it is beautiful, clean, and so pristine.

So did I miss how you got that backup dancer gig?  And, how long did you do that?  What did Caz stand for anyway?

    Love is the ultimate superpower.
It can make you weak and strong simultaneously.

  • Hi... I"m looking forward to the cruise. :)

Island -  I think that Caz is just his name or he was going for "Caz-anova." My friends met him and some other people (they were all the "Zulu Nation" people)... and then they brought me into the fold.  Do you work in the field of Accounting?
