It's tacky to throw yourself a party?

I see that's it's tacky to throw yourself a engagement party or bridal shower, but it's not tacky to throw yourself a birthday party? People usually get gifts at a birthday party also.

Is there only etiquette for weddings but everything else is thrown out the window!

I have seen people throw their own baby showers for each kid they have I don't hear anything about that etiquette wise.

  • Girl...that E board is a trip about not throwing yourself an Eparty or bridal shower ! Me and FI threw our own E party but called it a Bridal gathering since mainly the BP came and my mom and aunt. His parents did not show up which was cool with me. Now I did hear my mom say something about putting my shower together but best believe my mom is going to make me help !I bet you secertly them girls off the Eboard threw their own parties !! Lol. So I say no..its not tackey ! If so then throwing Bday parties and Baby showers is tacky too !! Lol

  • I stopped listening to them when I first started planning our VR..You can''t do this or that...Who are you to tell me how to spend my money??? Everyone's circle is different, what is normal for one may not be normal for others which is totally understandable.. However, some stuff is down right tacky...Asking on fb for your birthday for everyone to pay for there own food at the reception # dead..just have a potluck...Wait that's tacky too.I don't know about you ladies but most holiday & family gatherings are somewhat potluck in my circle.Lawd I've been breaking etiquette my whole life...lol...Anyway, I totally agree with you ladies, I don't see a difference between bday, engagement or baby shower parties...I say to each it's own..If I'm invited I have the option of opting out if I'm not feeling.

  • Etiquette schmetiquette... You know what your people are like way better than any chicks on the etiquette board. Use it as a resource, ask questions here, not there, then go with what feels right for your crowd.
  • I don't see a problem with throwing your engagement party. I think throwing your own bridal shower may be difficult because you supposed to be relaxed. Also, Bridal shower usually has games and it would look weird it you are controlling games about yourself.
  • How about a housewarming? You usually host your own and expect gifts! Isn't that rude and tacky? Even though I just went to one for a friend ah and her boyfriend had moved into an apartment!

  • Interesting. Ive always planned my adult Bday parties. I'm helping plan my bridal shower and we were going to plan our enagagement party. E-Board and me are not friends, and I'm ok with it.
