E-Ring?'s...Show it Off too if you want!

I have a couple questions about engagement rings....i am in the early phases of being "Just Engaged".  So how much should I expect to pay for insurance (per $1000)?

Also, do you wear your engagement ring all the time (sleeping, shower, at the gym)?.  I get nervous I will lose it when taking it off at the gym, but i sure am not going to risk stratching it with the free weights either!

Congrats , i am also a newbee , I have never taken my ring off. because  I am to afraid that I will lose it. Plus I work out a lot and have never damaged my ring . but I have a service plan to have it clean and shine every six months too.

    Good Luck!

I wear mine almost all the time but I do take it off when I'm sleeping and at the gym. I don't want anything happening to it if I'm using weights or anything. I'm not sure how much the insurance is. We included it with our homeowners, car, and valuable possessions and it's all together with a discount so I have no idea.

In the beginning, I took it off when I went to bed, when I took a bath, combed or washed my hair, etc.  But now, I only really take it off when washing my hair so the prongs don't get caught and yank my hair.  I essetially wear it all the time now, including exercise and sleeping.  I also have a plan wear they clean it every six months and FI has it insured through the jeweler.

Haha, I am the opposite. I always take off my ring, and almost never wear it, unless I go out. I also wear it most of the time when  I go to work My fi thinks there is something wrong with me. I am just not use to wear rings, but I am getting better.

In terms of insurance, you may just have to suck it and pay the 1K.

Also, look at the place where you bought the ring. Many place include a life time warranty on the diamond (so every time you loose a diamond, you can go there and they replace it for free) and some type of warranty on the metal

Another option is to add it to you home insurance or rental insurance...

Also something to consider if you have white gold (like me)and you are concerned about scratches: you can always redip the ring, maybe once a year and it cost less than $100.

You may go on and never have a problem, or you may loose it one day. Better safe than sorry.

I usually take off my ring as soon as I walk into the house and wont put it back on until I'm ready to leave the house.

But if we're staying anywhere else like a hotel, my parents house, in laws anywhere that's not my house. It won't leave my finger until I go to sleep and I'll put it back on when I wake up. My fingers swell at night and it hurts to leave it on while I'm sleeping.

    thanks ladies for your tips.

I do have the insurance for side diamonds, but not for the center stone if i completely lose it, so i know i will be getting that insurance, just wanted to know what a good rate would be. i dont have home insurance to add it to, so i will just continue looking.

I take my ring off to sleep, and put it on after I shower.  I pretty much keep it on all day, unless I'm putting lotion on my hands or going to get my hands really dirty.

I keep my ring on all the time unless I'm putting on lotion or doing something like seasoning meat etc.

I have insurance on my ring through the jeweler.  It was a couple hundred bucks more when he bought the ring.

I don't take mine off because I'm clumsy and forgetful. We tried to get insurance for the ring added onto his homeowner's policy and it would basically even out to about 1% of the total value of the ring per year. However, just so you are aware...some companies won't add it to the policy if it is over a certain amount and they make you purchase a completely separate policy or you will not be covered for the full value of the ring. It still came out to be about 1% of the ring's value though. I know you said you don't have a homeowner's policy, but maybe you can still purchase a separate policy for your ring. We went with Travelers and were pleased...quick, easy, and painless price-wise.

If you rent or own a house go through that insurance. Whe I got engaged my ring was appraised at 35,000 which would have costed my $750 a year to insure it plus a $1000 deductable. My co-worker told me to contact my renters insurance comapny and just add it to the policy. It covers everything lost, theft,, cracked diamond everything, with only a $250 deductable.  I pay 554 a year for my renters insurance which also covers the ring as well. Now I live in Jersey so I'm sure in other areas it may even be cheaper.
