Army brat - soon to be Army wife checks PIP (long)

Hi Ladies,

First let me say THANK GOD I FOUND YOU GUYS!!!!! I usually don't do the community section and while searching for some answers to my planning issues I found you ladies!!!!! Yes I'm a newbie and I need you wonderful ladies.

I didn't know if you guys did intros but I felt I should share so that you could get to know me.

My name is Domonique and my FI 'name' is Secret Squirrel (SS); he's in the Army and deployed and I can't give too many details about him. Met him in high school and we both held on to our secret crushes for 5 years; a couple of months ago he unofficially asked (since he's deployed) and I said yes and he told me to start thinking and planning but to keep in mind that it could all change so....

Here goes the ideas:

Location: Rocky Mountains in Colorado (FI's home state, it was his only request) so this is a US destination wedding bc I'm a Carolina gal.

Date: Looking at August 8, 2012 (but that could change)

Colors: Purple, Silver and Black

Venue Choices:
1) Beaver Creek/Broken Arrow

2) Wild Basin Lodge

3) Shadows Ranch

The Dress

I found the dress and tried it on and I'm petite and tiny so I didn't think I would like the full skirt and LOVE IT. I looked great...

I compromised on doing a traditional military wedding if I could have my casual reception. So we're going to have the saber arch, uniforms and thanks to Colorado's lovely marriage rule my aunt (who is like a second mother to me) is going to marry us.
(yes they're uniforms will look just like that too)

Hair Inspiration:
Right now I'm rocking a short cut (think Ri-RI b4 the red)

FLOWER POWER:
My bouquet is going to be primarily white with splashes of purple but these below were just to awesome to pass up.
My bridesmaids will be the reverse of mine.

I have chosen two of my best gurls to stand with me( one MOH and one BM), my two boys will be the ring-bearers and my flower girl will be my bridesmaid's daughter. We're not having a big ceremony or reception; just close family and friends so we're looking at about 60 ppl with +1's.

We're suppose to take e-pics with my photographer friend in Atl since that's where we met and plan to go to CO in Sept for vendor meetings and tastings.

Secret Surprises:
Grooms Cake - I want to do one of his morale patches - I think it would blow his mind.

Honoring Those Loved Ones Past: I want his sister and both my grandmothers to add stargazer lilies to my bouquet in memory of his mom and both my grandfathers.

Oh I'm a DIY bride too; I did our monogram for our invitations, save the dates etc, going to do our place cards, programs, etc.

For more info check out my lil' page: http://www.projectwedding.com/biography/list/dbligen
(I need to update that too)

Well...I think that's pretty much it. I've thought of music and other things too but the military could cause a whole bunch of stuff to change so yea...better for me to have the ideas and be able to subsitiute than not have any plans at all.

What about you ladies? Are there any other military wives?

That's what I thought and voiced concern over but he told me to plan for August bc he'd be off rotation by then if all else fails. Waiting to he retires...naww...he wants to do 20 years and while I LOVE him and would wait forever another 13+ years...naw boo...next August it is.

Welcome to the board!! Both FI and I are AF brats. I'm an AF vet and he is retired Army. You will love this board because everyone is so supportive here. I'm a 2012 bride too and it seems like you have it all worked out. Good luck to you and hope to see you on the board often.
