Is it ok to register for gitts of you aren't having a "formal, sit down" wedding receptiopn

For the ladies having "Budget Weddings" do you think it is appropiate to register for gifts? I want ask for cash or anything tacky like that. But this is why I say that: I am having approximately 75 ppl no more than a 100 max at the wedding. I will be getting married in my small, quiant Catholic church and then an reception immediately following at the local community center-great deal on it! I will be having a a HUGE buffet meal catered by my mother. My family likes to eat! LOL Chicken, meatball, mac and cheese, salad, dessert table, potatoe salad, green beans with potatoes and ham etc.It will be set up pretty and nicely.
We are also doing a bartender at the reception site. Open bar-it may be limited but I will have alcohol.
Anyway do what are your opinions on doing a gift registry if you are not doing a formal sit down dinner for your reception? I mean I believe my wedding reception will be nice and I am working hard to make it that way in all aspects but I didn't know if wasn't appropiate since it wasn't a "typical hotel, sit down, formal wedding".
Thanks in Advance!
