Dress Question!

If you were planning on doing your alterations at the bridal shop that you ordered your dress from, did you go try it on when it came in? Even if you weren't doing alterations yet?

My dress should *hopefully* be here next friday, and I really want to go on Saturday to try it on. I haven't seen it since October, and I want to see what areas I need to work on. But I won't want to do alterations until July... so is it ok if I go and just try it on?? Is that weird or normal? And do you think they can give me an estimate at that time (as long as their alterations lady is there) at how much its going to cost??

It's actually a really good idea to go check your dress when it comes in. You want to make sure that there aren't any flaws, that the correct size came in, etc. Try it on to make sure as there have been horror stories where the label said one thing but the dress size was actually different. Besides, you need to visit your dress!!!! :D

Normal to try it on - you spent a ton of money on it!  Also ask the seamstress how far out you need to start alterations - remember smack dab in the middle of wedding season = busy so they might need an extra week's lead time.  And yes, they should be able to give you an estimate for what all needs to be done.

I totally agree with pp.  You should try it on and make sure it's the right one, right color, and isn't 5 sizes too small or something!!

I loved mine even more when I tried it on when it came in.  I think because it was clean and sparkled more than the sample!  I wasn't able to get an estimate on alterations, but I did set up my first fitting appointment.
