African Wedding Dress and Bridesmaids Dress Opinions?

My FI is from Ghana so I wanted to wear an african inspired dress. Plus I also like to be unique. The two dresses I am going btwn are listed below. I am leaning more towards the the 1st dress with the sleeves.

The bridesmaids will be wearing traditional/modern dresses. I want them to be red. But I don't know if that clashes with the gold in the dress. I want my colors to be red and gold. I am not opposed to light goldish color dresses for the bridesmaids either. So I just want ppl opinion about the two wedding dresses and colors of bridesmaids dresses?

Oh, I like them both. I think I am leaning towards the first one.  What month is your wedding?  I think red and gold would be really pretty if it's a deep red.
    good luck!

I also like the first one more.

Have you considered wearing a traditional wedding gown for the ceremony and changing to a traditional Ghanian attire after your first dance and cutting the cake? That way, it won't clash with the bridesmaids attire.

I am Nigerian and will be changing after our first dance and the cake cutting to a traditional Nigerian attire.

I really like both of them but the 1st one seems more like a dress for the bride and the 2nd ones for bridesmaids. I definitely think red and gold will work together as long as you choose a deep red (Crimson) instead of a bright red.

    Hi shanell,
I am from Ghana too. Nice to see you're trying to incorporate FI's background into the wedding.

I think the red and gold for the bridesmaids dresses would look nice in that style as long as it's not too bright. I was also going to suggest what Wheatney said- wearing a traditional gown and changing into a traditional ghanaian attire during the reception. Or, are you doing only traditional clothes where FI would also be dressed in traditional outfits too?

No my FI would be in in a traditional American tuxedo...he will have a Gold Ghanain tie and hankercheif.I will be the only one in traditional dress. I am looking at this dress in the moscow red. Go to jcp.com and search for Chiffon Ruched Halter Dress w/Shawl and check out the color. Tell me what you think. Thanks!

Okay, just checked it out. So, just to clarify, who would be wearing this dress, Is it you or your BM's?
  • edited December 2011
My BM's would be wearing the dress maybe. Just trying to decide on red or a light gold color dress for the BM's that would compliment the rich gold color in my dress. I can't find BM's that match the gold in my dress. So what is the opinion?

Okay, I think I got it. Your dress would be one of the above dresses in gold and the link at jcp would be your bm's dresses in red.Sorry, I got a lil 'confused.

In that case, those are cute dresses for your bridesmaids. My only fear is that it may clash with ur dress. So, how about finding a red dress with gold somehow incorporated in it e.g a gold sash or something for ur BMs?That way, people can see the color scheme properly.

    Hope that helps!

The second one without the hat would be gorgeous imo

That's ok if you got a little confused...and I agree with you I am afraid of them clashing...so what color scheme do you suggest? I am also interested in these two  dresses from therosedress.com they come in gold color and other colors. The pics that I am adding don't show them in the gold color. Anyway let me know what you think? Also, what other colors do you think will work best with my dress?
    Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in responding. Your color scheme is fine.Do stick to it. I like the second dress. Check out the actual dress in gold in a store to make sure you actually like the color before your purchase it.
