what happens if....

I ordered my dress as a 16, my current size, the one i tried on was a 12. but the dress isnt due to come in until october and the wedding isnt until april. What happens if i lose a ton of weight? i dont plan on losing THAT much weight, but lets pretend I do...id have to order a smaller dress right? thats if it cant be altered.

When should I go in for my first fitting just in case i need to order a smaller size if it cant be altered? and once the fitting starts, do you stop losing weight and just try to maintain current weight?

i read that they cant alter dresses more than 2 sizes down, thats a lot of weight to lose to go 2 sizes down isnt it? Im not trying to do extreme makeover, just lose this junk food gut ive worked so hard to get ;-)

  • You should probably ask your bridal salon about this. I am not sure that you could change the size of the dress ordered after you have already placed your order. It is true that if you go down too many sizes they might not be able to alter the dress. I think it depends on the style of the dress and how complicated the alterations could be.

I ordered my dress to size in December. Didn't gain any weight by my first fitting in May but my dress was still snug around the hips (my dress is fit and flare). I have now lost 10 lbs since May, my next fitting isn't until October a week before the wedding (back story, I live in STL getting married in AZ and my dress is still in AZ). I sort of felt I prob should have not told the seamstress to let out the dress around the hip. But you know what? loosing weight is interesting cause although I have lost 10lbs, I don't think any was lost from hip area. I think it was all upper body. So no telling where you will loose weight when you do.

I am not sure I helped any...

  • I agree with PP. The bridal shop knows their alterations team the best so I would definitely check with them. I am in a similar situation too my dress is about 5 hrs away from me. I just did my first fitting 3 weeks ago but now I have to go back for an extra fitting. First appt was about 2 months from wedding date and I'm glad I went then because it gives me extra time to get the dress done in time without having to worry about it getting finished too close to the date.
