Invitation recommendations in Seattle area?

Where did you get your wedding invitations?  Who do you recommend?  Is it better/less expensive to create your own?  I'm starting to investigate this, and have no idea where to even start.......

Thanks for any recommendations, suggestions, etc......

Check out etsy.com, click weddings, then invitations, and you can find lots of folks who are great invitation designers.  Also, weddingpaperdivas.com has good stuff.

I've decided to DIY because I like the end result better, but I could have done it cheaper at Costco or a with simple design from some of the online vendors.  DIY for sure takes more time - you have to decide if the invitations matter enough to spend the time, and get started early.

I'm ordering my pre-cut invitation and insert cards with my text printed on them, plus the extras for pocketfolds and the envelope from cardsandpockets.com, then I'll be adding the design by stamping each invitation and card and assembling the thing myself.  Some folks go so far as to make their own pocketfolds, some cut their own paper for invitations and inserts, some do their own printing, and others pay for some or all of that, but design it themselves - you can decide how involved (or not) you want to be.

I don't know of any vendors to recommend, because I am DIYing it.  I would say that if you like working with paper, or want something very specific (like color, design, etc.) DIY is the way to go.  Like PP said, if you buy pre-cut everything, and pre-made pocketfolds, it isn't really even hard.  But if the idea of this stresses you out, hire someone.  For me, for what I wanted it was A LOT cheaper to make them.

I love the person who is doing our invitations. They are completely custom and she has been fabulous. I think her prices are pretty competitive if you are going to buy!

We are doing semi-DIY, we got invitation sets from Michael's and are printing and personalizing them. They are really well priced and include everything (pocketfold/invitation/rsvp card/directions card) I also liked it because they sell tons of stuff that coordinate with the design. I really liked this because I am all about matching and this we way have save the dates, place cards, favor boxes, table number, card box, etc.

I love All About Weddings in Tukwila near Southcenter.  I fell in love with letterpress early on and they were able to help me find exactly what i wanted!  they had a great variety of samples too - so that was nice!

For DIY kits and such, is it a computer program?  Do you print out address labels, etc. and somehow attach them to the actual paper card stock?

i heard paper fling is pretty good too. i think its on the eastside somewhere. i'm diying and i think its the best way! if you are willing to do it, look into cards and pockets online. they have precut everything and pocketfolds and envelopes. They are really reasonably priced.

I'm DIYing it because I really enjoy papergoods. Depending on what you do, it can be cheaper or it can be more expensive, but it's definitely more time consuming and a bit of stress.

With the DIY kits from Michaels', you just do your own wording in any program you like such as Word, PowerPoint, any desktop publisher, etc and then feed the paper through your printer and print directly on it.

The DIY kit that we got directs to a website where they have all of the templates. You just copy the template to a word document and type in your own info and then print them out on your home printer. Our kit also came with labels to print on and then attach to the pocketfold evelopes as well as seals to use to close the pocketfolds. I think there is a picture of the invites we chose in my bio.

I created all my inserts and the invite on my own and sent my creations to Paperfling.  She was super reasonably priced and has quality work.  She is really friendly and great to work with.  I was going to buy all my pockets and envelopes seperately but if i purchased everything through her I got a discount!!  Highly recommended.  I wanted something specific, but didnt want to A) buy a new printer, B) cut a whole bunch of paper.  I am assembling everything myself and that is more than enough. :)
